Borris was far ahead of Boy and seemed to never be out of energy. Boy, on the other hand, was getting tired. His feet were aching and he couldn't seem to focus on what he was doing.
"Borris.. Are we there yet?" Boy huffed. He dragged his feet across the hot pavement and soon he dragged the other one.
"Yes, I see it," Borris said.
"See what?"
"A village." Borris pointed ahead of him.
Boy finally caught up and looked up.
"Does it look familiar..?" Borris said looking at Boy.
"No! Borris you-..." Boy said, wheezing in between words.
"We went the wrong way!" Boy sat down and draped his arm over his eyes.
"You told me to go this way.." Borris said sitting next to him.
Boy rolled his eyes and started walking into the new neighborhood.
"If we get killed trying to 'set you free'. I'm going to be mad." Boy snapped.
"How can you be mad If your already dead? And besides, You won't die."
"Why not me but you can?"
"I'm protecting you." Borris smiled.
Boy bit his lip and walked up to a big red door. He lifted his arm up to knock and quickly looked at Borris.
He made three soft knocks and looked at Borris. Finally, after a few minutes, a kid opened the door.
"Who are you." The kid asked.
"I-- uh." Boy looked back at Borris.
"Make up a name.." Borris said softly.
"I'm David -" Boy said, looking at the blonde-haired boy staring at him.
"There are no David's that go to my school. You must be new." He said tilting his head to the side.
"No, I-"
"Mom! There's a new kid at our doorstep!" The kid yelled into the home. He looked back at Boy and held out his hand.
"My name is Bates." He said with a large grin.
Boy blinked harshly as another boy stood in the back looking exactly like the boy in front of him.
"And I'm Cosmo!" He finally spoke pushing past Bates.
"And we're twins!"
"Cosmo!" Bates yelled.
"You- It's obvious! He can tell!"
"I'm sorry-!"
"No! No, you're not."
"Sorry.."
"We talked about this."
Boy chuckled a little and looked back at Borris, who wasn't there.
"Boys! I have the heat on why is this door open?" A female voice spoke, The mother looked at Boy.
"Who is this?"
"That's just David, mom," Bates said, still smiling, pushing Cosmo away from the entrance.
"Where did you come from?" She asked.
"The orphanage burnt down. I was the only survivor."
Bates' smile soon turned into a frown. Cosmo stared at Boy in disbelief and the mother just looked at the dirty kid standing in front of her.
"Come inside David, Watch out boys." She said placing her hand on Boy's shoulder leading him inside.
Bates and Cosmo watched Boy walk into the kitchen and sit on a chair.
The mother opened a cupboard and pulled out four mugs.
"How did you escape?" Bates sat sitting beside Boy.
"Yeah who did you lose in the fire?" Cosmo added sitting on the other side of Boy.
Boy tapped his fingers on his lap staring at the island.
"I jumped out of the window." Boy finally said, looking at Bates.
"Cool! How high were you?"
"I'm not sure. Definitely wasn't the first floor though. Maybe.. The third."
Bates gasped and looked at his mom then back at Boy.
"Who did I lose?.. I lost Tony and.."
Cosmo looked at Boy confused.
"And.. Charlotte."
"Wow.. That must be horrible.." Cosmo said.
Boy nodded and looked at Cosmo.
The mother came over and placed the mugs on the island and pushed one to Boy while the twins grabbed the other ones.
"Did you have a sister?" Bates asked after taking a sip.
"Or a brother?" Cosmo added.
"I had a sister." Boy said He picked up the mug that seemed to have hot chocolate in it. He put it to his lips and thought of the flower he placed on Girl's little grave.
"Where is she?" The mother asked.
Boy looked at her and shook his head.
"She was Charlotte."
"She was lost in the fire."
The twins and their mother were silent. They just looked at Boy. The more Boy thought of it, It wasn't really a grave for his sister. It was a grave for everyone who died there. The flower was for her.
"I'm so sorry.. David that must have been horrible.." The mother said.
"No, The horrible part was watching.. Her die."
Again silence. So quiet, Even the birds stopped chirping.
