Planet of Londeria - Crystal Valley
It was a clear night, no clouds in the sky. Outside of the Capital city outskirts of that planet on the center of a vast, empty valley, guarded by dozens of armed guards, resided a tall and magnificent construction, resembling an ancient architecture, on the shape of a pyramid without it's top. At the bottom of it, a man was walking back and forth protecting the entrance of the building. He was in his early fifties and had an unexcited semblance on his face.
A flying car approaching the building caught his attention, making him recompose his posture. The car would fly above the ground at a high speed, carrying about five soldiers. The car stopped in front of him, the soldiers greeted him with their heads but no words, then, a young soldier dropped out of it and the car flew away. The older guard walked towards him, they exchanged greetings, the older one raised his hand as the younger one touched the palm of it, as a sign of respect in that culture.
"First night lad, am I right?" The old man said to him.
The young man bent his head in agreement. "Yes, Sir. It is an honor to be serving here."
They both walked back to the entrance doors.
"Yeah, well, don't get too excited, there isn't much work to be done."
"What do you mean sir?" The young man asked.
The older man seemed uninterested by the question. "Well, guarding the temple is only an honor in its title boy, we're the ones who do less here, even if someone tries to invade the valley - Shamul forbids - is the other soldiers who deal with it. The action never gets to us, we basically just stand in here." He looks at the boy. "Which just makes me remember, I'd advise you to bring a book or so for the next few days, it makes the time go faster, you know?"
"Uh...okay then."
They both stood in silence for a couple of minutes. The young man observed the place, he grew up in a village, hearing stories about that mystical valley. He moved his head around, observing every detail, the grass perfectly cut on that empty valley, the woods, and the trees at a distance. He turned around and his head stopped at the magnificent building before him. The silver of it would reflect the two moons in the sky, it would also reflect him. He felt weird looking at his image and went back to his position.
"Sir, I have a question." He finally said.
The man turns to him, attentively. "Of course, what is it?"
"Wha-- what are we guarding exactly?" he asked.
The old man has a surprised look on his face. "Don't you know the stories boy?"
"Of...of course I do, I just always doubted the veracity of them. Is it-- is it really the Old King Cannon asleep in there? It... frankly it doesn't make sense... Sir."
After a pause, the old man answered. "I understand."
He then looked around the valley, checking the position of the other guards. They were all farther away into the woods that surrounded the valley.
"Okay, come." He said, catching the young guard by surprise.
He approached the door, taking a magnetic card of his pocket and placed it on the side of the door, a small sound was heard and then the door was opened. The older man walked inside, accompanied by the young.
"We're not supposed to be getting in here much, but because you're starting, I believe it's good that you get to know the place." He says.
"Well, alright sir...It's an honor." The young answered while following him, being struck by the beauty of the place.
