Catherine eventually drifted off to sleep around 3am.

Her mind clouded with bizarre dreams, hazy images swirling behind her eyes, occasionally retreating from wakefulness to unconsciousness, her mind like waves breaking on the sand and then withdrawing back into the deep briny sea...

The waves suddenly dashed forwards and swirled around into a strange purple and blue ball...it pulsed and stretched until it began to transform itself into a pinata...a glowing rainbow stick suddenly appeared in her hand...she raised her hands above her head and struck the pinata with the magic stick...the string holding it to an invisible ceiling broke and it tumbled to the ground, breaking open like an egg...a swarm of bees suddenly rose out of the pinata and dashed towards her...the swarm's continuous buzzing rang in her ears and it closed in on her like a predator cornering it's prey...she dropped the stick and threw up her arms to protect herself, waiting for the excrutiating sensation of a million stingers penetrating her skin...

Suddenly, Catherine felt herself jerk awake, her heart pounding in her chest.

"Jesus," she muttered, burying her face into her pillow.

The dream was over, the bees were gone, but why could she still hear buzzing...? With a groan, she looked up and saw that her phone was vibrating. It shimmied across the wooden bed-side table, buzzing and then pausing at intervals before starting up again.

"Bloody hell..."

Who could be texting her at this hour? Groggily, she flung out a hand and grabbed the phone. It was a text from her best friend, Ben.

I CAN'T SLEEP.

Catherine texted back: Neither can I >:(

Almost immediately afterwards, Ben replied: Wanna go McDonalds?

Catherine laughed and her thumbs punched out the words: What, at this hour? LET'S DO IT.

Meet u in the lobby in 5 mins!

Grinning, Catherine leapt out of bed. She tugged off her clothes and slipped on an oversized hoodie and a pair of yoga leggings, then pulled her hair into a messy bun. After pulling on a pair of Converses, she steathily snuck out of her flat and jogged down the stairs. She made her way to the foyer and found Ben was waiting for her. He grinned when he saw her.

"What's up, homie?" He playfully socked her arm, his large green eyes crinkling at the corners in amusement.

Catherine laughed, her voice reverberating around the room.

"Ssh!" Ben hissed, his eyes darting warily to the stairs and then doorman's desk. "Someone'll hear us!"

Catherine rolled her eyes sarcastically.

"Everyone's asleep, Ben!" she said, turning on her heel and making for the foyer doors. "Come on, let's go! I'm dying for a chicken legend..."
