"Luciel...?" Her voice was barely above a whisper, but the name seemed to bounce across the walls.
A pause.
She snapped out of her shock and reverie. "Sorry. Sorry about that. He- He just looks like someone I knew a long time ago. I got a bit surprised." She shook her head a little, forcing herself to smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Lucifer." There was no real change in his expression. "The pleasure is mine." Oh God, even his voice is the same. Regardless, she could tell he was just trying to be polite, that he really didn't care. "On behalf of the entire student body, I offer you a most heartfelt welcome, Saphyra." She half bowed. "Thank you." His eyes seemed to look right through her, as if he could tell what she was thinking. "For the duration of your stay here, you will have my brother, Mammon look after you. He's the Avatar of Greed and... How should I put it...? You'll understand when you meet him." The way he said that made it amply clear he did not think too highly of his brother.
He handed her a... Smartphone? "Take this. This is a D.D.D. It's quite like the smartphones of your world. It will be yours to use during your stay in Devildom." She took the sleek, black phone-like device from him, switching it on. It was surprisingly easy to operate. Not much difference between this and a smartphone.
Does that mean my smartphone won't work here? She thought. Wait. Obviously it won't! This is another world, idiot!
"Try calling Mammon with this." Lucifer's voice broke her thoughts. She nodded, and dialled Mammon's number.
"Yoo." A lazy voice greeted her. "Hi. I'm speaking with Mammon, Avatar of Greed, yes?" Saphyra said, her hand on the base of her throat, a habit of hers when she was nervous. "Yeah. And who the hell are you? You ain't Lucifer." I'm already not liking this guy. Demon. "I'm a human. My name is Saphyra—" "Whoa? A human?" He broke in. "Yes, and I—" "Geez, I was gettin' all chilly here thinkin' it was Lucifer. You should've told me right away." He paused, and Saphyra tried to continue, but he went on, "So what business does a human have with THE Mammon?" The swagger in his voice was evident. Are you the Avatar of Pride, or Lucifer? She thought angrily. She was beginning to see red. Putting a hand her hip, she said, "Well, if you'd have let me finish in the first place, you would've known." She heard Lucifer suppress a chuckle and someone murmur, "I already like her."
"Oi! That's no way to talk to me! Who are ya, anyway?" Saphyra gritted her teeth. "Tell you what. I'll give you few hints. I'll repeat slowly, so that you can understand me. Okay.
H-U-M-A-N. E-X-C-H-A-N-G-E P-R-O-G-R-A-M. Y-O-U-R-E I-N-C-H-A-R-G-E —""OKAY, I GOT what you're saying!" Mammon huffed. The titters of laughter in the room had evolved to chuckles, giggles and eventually to raucous laughs. "Silence!" Lucifer had thundered, although she saw his eyes glitter with amusement.
"So you're the other human. The exchange student." Mammon said. "Yes." Saphyra exhaled. "G' luck with that and see you." Saphyra now had enough. "I'm sorry, I really am. But, how dumb are you?"
"WHAT?" Mammon's thunderous anger came through, but Saphyra was done with him. "I was saying, really slowly, you're. In. Charge. Of. Looking. After. Me. While. I'm. In. Devildom." "No way! There's nothing in it for me." Mammon scoffed. Saphyra shrugged. "Not my decision. Lucifer's. If you have a problem with it, talk to him. I'm not calling the shots here."
"Pft, whatever. Ya think THE Mammon would listen to ya just cause you're tryin' to scare me with that name?" Saphyra clenched her fists. "Now listen up, Bling Boy—" Lucifer gestured towards the D.D.D. Saphyra happily handed it to him. "You have 10 seconds. 9... 8..." He said started counting off. Immediately, he cut the D.D.D.
"Looks like you had quite a chat with him." Lucifer remarked. Saphyra shook her head. "I'm sorry, I really mean no offense, but, he's an idiot. A dolt. A complete, utter, moron." Lucifer shook his head, a trace of a smile ghosting his lips. "None taken." "I honestly would've preferred you, Lucifer." Saphyra blurted. Idiot! Just because he looks, sounds, and sort of acts like Luciel doesn't mean you should say something like that. Dummy! "You're looking nervous again, huh." Lucifer said, thoughtfully. "Well, if you were bought to a strange place and were told an unfamiliar face will now take care of you, you'd certainly feel anxious." Diavolo said gently. Especially one that seems to be a absolute duffer, Saphyra thought.
