Chapter 3 (Checkpoint)

Izumi walked by each house, knocking on every door. Sadly, Izumi was rejected as the owners’ were afraid of her, due to the sword she was carrying with her.

Izumi couldn’t blame them. Anyone with a sword with them might have ulterior motives, she thought. But I really have to find a place to stay in for the night.

Izumi sighed in defeat. She shook her head, regretting her decision of not bringing out at least some small change.

Night was falling soon, and Izumi had to find a place quickly. Izumi looked at the house in front of her - it was beautiful and big.

“I’ll be pretty surprised if the owner lets me stay the night,” Izumi said, staring in awe. Izumi knocked on the door three times.

No answer. She knocked again. It was dead silent. Izumi sighed as she started walking away.

Then suddenly, she felt someone tug at her haori, which was white and had a blue floral patterned embroidered on it.

Izumi turned around to see a rather young lady, who had snow white hair and a beautiful physique. The lady smiled, ”Were you knocking on my house? No one is inside, is there anything you need?” Izumi nodded, bowing slightly.

“Is it okay if I stay in for the night? I don’t have change on me and I have nowhere to stay in right now…” The lady kept smiling, ”Sure!”

She led Izumi into her house. Izumi was awestruck when she saw the interior of the house - it was stunning.

The interior design was simple yet sophisticated. The walls were painted a pale beige color, whilst the floor was of a rather dark brown. There were different types of potted flowers that were placed on single shelves.

“Simply breath-taking…” Izumi mumbled. The lady led her into a guest room where Izumi will rest for the night. Izumi thanked the lady.

Before she went out, Izumi asked the lady, “Miss, what is your name?” The lady, upon hearing Izumi’s question, replied, “My name is Hikaru Kora.”

Izumi made a mental note and thanked her again, before placing Izaki’s sword by her side as she slept soundly.

The next morning, Izumi woke up bright and early. She picked up all her belongings and made her way to what seemed like the living room.

Izumi saw Kora. “Kora-san, thank you for your hospitality.” Izumi bowed and thanked her once more, before she left to continue her journey. 

She wandered around Tokyo, seeing beautiful sights along the way. Izumi went on and on and on, until her legs gave out.

She stopped by a shophouse that sold ramen. Entering the place, the place was rather empty, with only a few groups of people. Though it lacked customers, the place had a clean design to it.

There weren’t any stains on the tables, walls and even the floor was reflecting images. The walls were decorated with various types of paintings Izumi took a seat next to one as a waitress walked up to her.

“Hello Miss! What would you like to have?” Izumi looked up at her, and scratched her head, “Sorry, but I don’t have any coins on me…” “But you've had such a long day, here, I’ll talk to the boss for you!” The waitress smiled at her, walking away.

Izumi was even more puzzled. How did she even know I had a long day? Izumi thought. Must be my clothes...

Izumi looked down at her clothing, it was pretty dusty and slightly dirty. She just sighed.

Not long after, the waitress came back with a bowl of ramen. “The boss was really nice! He wanted to give you this, and even said if you aren’t full, you can ask me for another bowl!” The waitress said, gleaming as she placed the bowl down onto the table.

Izumi thanked her and she nodded, before walking away again.

“Itadakimasu!” Izumi said before devouring the whole bowl. She wiped her mouth and washed her hands before returning to her seat.

Exhausted from a whole day of walking, Izumi closed her eyes and leaned back on her chair.

She was just about to doze off when she overheard a conversation over at the group sitting beside her table.

“Did you hear about the demon travelling with a demon slayer?”
