Angel is already waiting for me when I arrive and Gabby is standing beside her with a huge smile.
We speak for a moment before Angel and I make our way back. From the moment we leave the Kindergarten she is holding my hand. When I tell her she doesn't have to, she is persistent and holds even tighter. I can't believe how adorable she is.
"You know Angel", I say and stop, "you have to be the cutest girl I have ever met." She turns around, still holding my hand and smiles up at me.
"But you like Papa more?", she asks and for a second I don't know what to say. Is Thoma okay with me being open about our relationship especially to Angel? Well, if he wants to date me then Angel has to know sooner or later.
"I like your Papa in a different way but I like you both equally", I tell her and start walking again.
"How do you like Papa differently?" She is not just mature but curious as well.
"That's difficult to answer. I love your Papa and he loves me too, romantically. And I think I love you as a family does."
"So we are a family now?", she asks shyly. That is the first time I saw her acting shy. For some reason, my heart aches. Probably because there is a deeper story behind it and I don't think it is a good one.
"Not right now", I say and squeeze her hand to reassure her, "but I hope we will be in the future."
She nods and then looks up ahead. She is in her own little world while I guide her home. Thomas already waits for us. He thanks me for getting Angel. I would love if he would give me a kiss as a reward but it seems he isn't comfortable with Angel around. I will bring him to kiss me in front of Angel, but until then I will wait until we are alone again.
Fortunately, it doesn't take long. Just two days later Thomas invites me on a date. Our first real date. At least it feels like it. He is the one who planned it this time.
We met in a supermarket close to my place since he wanted to pick something up. I arrived when he already bought whatever he had to buy. Not gonna lie, I was very curious about what he had planned.
We have been driving for half an hour now and the sun is setting. I was pretty sure before the date had something to do with the sunset but now I have my doubts. Thomas isn't speeding up or looking nervous, so the sunset can't be that important for this date. Which is going great.
We are driving down a road that is leading us out of the city. Soft music is playing and when I look outside the window I can see the beautiful orange sky.
I roll down the window and let the wind go through my hair. I sigh. This is like a dream. Like a scene from a movie. We don't even have to talk. We just sit next to each other and I feel relaxed and comfortable. Time flies by as I watch the houses get smaller and then vanish from the side of the road. They get replaced by trees and fields of crops. Everything is aflame in soft light.
My aesthetic senses are vibrating to the point where I just have to get my phone out and take a picture, even though I know that it isn't coming out good while I sit in a moving car.
The sun wanders closer to the horizon and almost touches earth when Thomas slows down and makes a left turn. He drives the car along a dirt road. Where is he taking me? I get an answer when the horizon gets closer and closer and then earth gets replaced by the ocean. A few more meters and then he stops. I can't take it anymore and sprint out of the car.
I walk up to the edge of the cliff and look down. Under me is a small sand beach and in front of me just the ocean. It's windy up here. Now I know why the sunset wasn't so important. When I look at the ocean the sun is setting behind me. My heart is beating just from the beauty of it all and I can tell that this will be on the top of my list of favorite locations for a long time.
