Chapter Five

The next morning, I wake up to an empty bed where I'm curled up on my side since I've hated taking up the whole space of a bed. It feels wrong of me to sleep in the middle of a bed. Especially if it's a king or queen sized bed.

I do stretch my legs out a little.
I have no idea where Landon went, but I want to stay laying here for another minute or two. My eyelids shut close as I get comfortable laying on my other side and start to drift to sleep again till a voice interrupts.

"Hey sunshine," a voice says in a smooth southern accent.

My eylids flutter open to find a stranger in a pretty green sweatshirt laying on his side looking at me. He has shimmery green hair that blends into blonde hair at the tips and clear green eyes that's a tad darker then his hair. His skin is fair but not as pale as the others. It's more peachy. He has a small smirk on his lips and a glint of amusement in his eyes.

He has a strange tattoo going across his neck that has numbers like Landon's tattoo, but he has smooth waves above the numbers. I wonder why they have basically the same tattoo. Landon didn't say it was anything significant, so it could be a coincidence.

"I'm River. You must be Jacob. Your cousin sent me to get you."

"Yeah. Ok. I'll change."

I should change out of my sweatshirt from yesterday at least. My hair hasn't been combed out, but I took out my hair yesterday morning at least. I never changed my pajamas either.

Getting up out of bed, I walk to Landon's closet to get some clothes. When I turn back to ask if he could turn away, he's already halfway out the door.

After changing into a black shirt with black joggers and pink socks, I leave to go find the kitchen which I did find perfectly fine last night but now have trouble with. I've walked to the hall where I encountered Evan and Callum, but now there's another hallway seperating off. I can't tell which way to go because both ways look right.

I walk down the left hallway hoping it's the right way and end up at a set of stairs which can't be right. Footsteps start to come down the stairs, but I don't flinch as I try to see who's coming down the stairs.

I remember a time when I was in the living room, and I heard someone walking down the hallway. I wasn't scared even though no one usually wakes up at odd hours of the night. I watched the hallway though till Landon walked in the living room. He was spending the night which he did a lot when I was younger. He slept in the room that is now my little sister's and little brother's room.

He was thirsty, and that's why he woke up. It was odd that he woke up at four in the morning to get a drink of water. I was a little more talkative back then, and I had asked him why he was so thristy so early in the morning. This was probably the only time we didn't make awkward conversation. He said he hardly sleeps at night.

It made sense. He'd slip off into naps occasionally. It was the only thing I understood about him. I would have never remembered that if he wasn't coming down the stairs now like that memory of him in the hall.

He's wearing a yellow hoodie with black jeans and black socks right now, and it reminds me of the outfits all the others are wearing. They all seem to be different colors too. I don't care to dwell too far into it. Some things are just what they are.

"Hey. Everyone is in the living room," Landon says holding out his palm to me.

Taking his hand, I let him take me back where we came from. Now we're back at the end of the hall before Evan and Callum's room, and I'm not sure what happened. I thought this place was a maze, and I think I was right in saying that.
