It was my first day at my new high school. I had moved three times within the last year and I wasn't excited to have to start over my senior year. Most kids get to go to school with the same people all their life, creating amazing friendships that could last a lifetime. But being a military kid you end up moving all your life and growing up dreaming of that fantasy of life long friends.
I had never had a boyfriend, first kiss, or even gone to a dance with a boy before. This year was going to be different. My mom said we shouldn't have to move again until I was out of high school so maybe I would have time to actually meet someone and check all those firsts off of my bucket list.
" Sophie! hurry up or you're gonna miss the bus!"
"Shit sorry mom." I yelled back.
I ran down the stairs of our new ranch style home and grabbed a piece of toast from the kitchen before giving my mom a kiss on the cheek and blowing out the door to the bus stop. There were four other people there, a boy wearing a black beanie with some graphic t-shirt of some band I had never heard of, a girl with make up caked on her face and a mini skirt. Yep she was definitely a try hard freshie. A kid with a guitar sat on the curb trying to play who knows what song, clearly he hadn't been playing very long, and lastly there was a tall, skinny, dark haired boy, looked to be no older than 14. He seemed sweet, yet nervous. Within a couple minutes the bus arrived to take us all to the hell we call school.
Im not a bad student or anything i just don't like human interaction. One thing I've learned from going to so many different schools is to know your place. Being the new kid senior year ranks you at the very bottom of the totem pole. So stay out of the way of the populars. I read up on this school the night before, Eastwood High was known for having the best football team in the state, it hasn't lost a game since 2011. Its also known for having the worst populars, from what I gathered there are four main people in the group, the football QB Ashton Grey, his girlfriend captain of the cheer squad, Carsen Davis and of course their best friends, Cole Webster and Kirsten Mendoza. It was a classic popular group. Obviously Carsen and Ashton would be dating, its practically tradition for 90% of high schools.
I ended up sitting alone on the bus, which honestly doesn't bother me, I prefer to be alone anyway. I don't get hurt that way. I got to school and instantly wanted to go home. I hated having to start a new school, it meant having teachers hate you and people avoid you because you're the new kid. Sometime i wish my dad didn't want to be a hero, that maybe he could've done something normal like been in business or something. I grabbed my schedule out of my bag and looked at my first class. Great, AP Chem. Just how I wanted to start my day. I headed to the main building to put my stuff in my locker, my nose stuck in my phone hoping to avoid any human interaction. As I was walking i run into what feels like a brick wall. Praying that i didn't just walk into a wall on my first day at a new school I slowly look up to find a tall, muscular guy with dark brown hair and sparkling blue eyes. He looked familiar, like I had seen him before. That's when it hit me. He was the Ashton Grey, quarterback of the football team, dating the most popular girl in school and known to be one of the biggest jerk in the school. I looked around at everyone staring at me because I had just done something completely stupid and something i swore to myself i would never do in all my 18 years of living. Everyone was silent, waiting for him to say something, scream, or just do something. I stood up off the ground and looked at the ground.
"I-I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, It was an accident. I wont happen again. I'm sorry." I stammered. Great he probably thinks I'm some nerd.
"you're good." He flatly replied.
Um im sorry what now? Did he just. No way. I'm hearing things. Theres no way he didnt scream at me to get out of his way.
"Um what?"
"I said you're good. I was an accident. Don't sweat it."
"Wait you're not gonna like yell at me to move or anything?"
"Nah." He laughed. "You're clearly new and I'm in a surprisingly good mood today. Consider yourself lucky." He said over his shoulder as he walked away with his posse.
I was shocked. This has never happened. I dont even think this has happened ever, to anyone. Hm maybe he isnt as much of a jerk as i thought. As soon as the thought crossed my mind he was pushing some freshman into the wall. Spoke too soon.
