The last year of my high school education.
Walking down the hall, I could hear the buzz of excited students talking about what they were gonna do to leave their mark this year.
In all honesty, I wasn't concerned about who remembers me and who doesn't.
This year, I'm going to improve myself. I don't want to be the innocent girl anymore. Today, I tried to wear clothes that reflected my current attitude, I didn't have much to choose from because I've generally been happy with my pink blouses and boot cut jeans.
But this year, I'm going to get what I want, and I'm not going to be scared to ask for it... hopefully.
Walking down the hall, I've found confidence I've never had before and it's exhilarating, I can feel the excitement coursing through my veins.
I walk up to my locker and find my best friend standing there waiting for me, "Hey Miles!" she says with a giddy expression. "Ok, what's got you so excited?" I giggled while entering my code.
"We're going to a party tonight, we're seniors this year, we're going to make the most of High School while we can. We rule this school."
"Maybe you and people like Emmett do, but not me, people tolerate me, I'm just here for the ride"
"Oh please Miles, you're fucking hot, if you'd stop hiding your hot ass figure in these clothes then you might get some action. Maybe even from Kennedy" She tells me with a wink.
I try to hide my blush but blood rushes to my cheeks and gives me away.
"OK fine I'll go, but you have to help me find some new clothes, I meant what I said last year I'm willing to let you make me over. Make me like you." she squealed excidedly and started talking about all of the places she was going to take me.
Suddenly, I worried about how I was going to pay for this stuff, It's not like my family is poor, we actually have a decent amount of money, but my dad is a firm believer that his kids should have to work for their own money. My older sister is the daddy's girl and she knows how to push him in just the right way to get what she wants. But for me, I work my butt off at the local Ice cream shop for my own money, and I had to use my summer earnings to buy a new car after my old one took its final breath. Now I'm back to being penniless. Maybe I can talk to my mom.
"Hey Miles, we should probably get to class it's getting late, we can't afford to withold our fellow high schoolers from the gift of our presence any longer."
"Oh yes of course."
"Of course," she repeated back to me. This was something we started in Middle School. I noticed very early on in our friendship that she says "of course" a lot, and it became an unspoken tradition. When one of us said "of course", the other repeated it back. It was a good tool when you're trying to figure out if they're actually paying attention. I will admit, she's caught me zoning out a few times that way. It's even become a game, if someone in real life or on tv, says it, we try to see who can say it fastest. The loser has to pay for gas.
The only spot left is next to Emmett Kennedy and my heart does a flip as I sit next to him, I try to keep my breath even, but he's about 3 feet from me. I've had a crush on him for like forever, and the only one who knows is Sav.
You know those stereotypical books that everyone reads and then pretends like they don't? Anyways, Emmett is the jock, the one who everyone wants to be best friends with because he'll always get you into the coolest parties and he's always been breathtaking.
