It had been exactly a month since Oscar told me how he had really felt

It had been exactly a month since Oscar told me how he had really felt. Since he had told me that he didn't want me around him or Cesar anymore. I don't think anything had ever hurt me so bad in my entire life. I cried for an entire week. My mom even threatened to go over there to talk to him. I told her it wasn't worth it.

I would see Cesar occasionally in passing, but I didn't speak to him. It was hard ignoring him, but I did it successfully. Even while working at Jamal's dad's restaurant. Getting a job really helped me stay busy. If I wasn't at work then I was at home working on my custom vans. A job and a hobby. It was what I needed to keep my mind off of him. To keep my mind off of Oscar.

"Are you working today?" My mom asked me, leaning on my door frame. I nodded as I laced up my shoes. "Yeah, I'm closing tonight too so, I'll probably be home late." She sighed, "Riella, all you do is work mija. Why don't you go out sometimes? Maybe to the mall or something?" "I do go to the mall." She shook her head, "I'm not talking about for your little painted shoes." I rolled my eyes. She sighed, "I just don't like to see you so, so cut off from everyone else."

I stood up and grabbed my backpack. I looked at her, "You mean, from Cesar and Oscar." She gave me a small smile. I walked past her and huffed. "Ma I told you I'm done with them." She followed me into the kitchen. Just watching me as I packed something to eat later. "Mija, I just don't think you should throw away a friendship that you've had for so long." "Well, sorry but it wasn't really my decision." I shrugged my shoulders and started towards the front door. "I saw Oscar the other day."

I stopped before I opened the door. Just hearing his name hurt. I frowned up a little, but I kept facing the door. I didn't want her to recognize the emotion that I was feeling. "He asked about you." I frowned even harder. Trying to keep my composure. "He wanted to know how you were. He said that he misses you mija."

That was it. I couldn't hear anymore. I just opened the door and barrelled out of their. Walking to the restaurant as fast as my legs would carry me. Making it their in record time. "Hey Riella!" "Hey Jamal." I walked past him and to the back, changing into my work shirt. I sat down for a moment before walking back up front. Even talking about him made me so damn emotional. I hated that he still had that much control over me. I'd be lying to myself if I said that I didn't love him. I still loved him. I don't think that I would ever stop.

"Hey Riella, can you please come help up front?" I stood up, "Yeah, sorry, I'm coming!" I grabbed an apron and put it on before walking up front. I expected to see a long line or a dining room full of people. But I didn't see either. "What's up Jamal?" He looked nervous, like he was scared. "What is it?" He pointed to the take out window. So I walked over to see what it was.

"Angel?"

He nodded. "Hey Riella." He smiled at me and I couldn't help but to smile back. It felt good to see someone other than my mom or Jamal for once. "What are you doing here?" He smiled, "I came to see you. I heard you were working here." "Oh." I looked over at Jamal and he looked down at his watch. "Fifteen minutes, that's it." I nodded and laughed, "Okay, thank you boss." I walked out from behind the counter and sat down at a booth with Angel.

He smiled at me again."It's really nice to see you." I nodded, "You too. Even though the last time we spoke, we didn't really leave things on good terms. I'm sorry for that." He sighed, "It's okay. It hurt my feelings, I'm not gonna lie, but it's in the past now." I gave him a small smile, then I brushed some of my hair behind my ears. "So, how did you know I worked here?" He didn't answer me at first. He kind of looked away. I reached out and touched his hand. "Angel?"

He sighed, "Spooky."

I frowned. "What?" "Spooky. He was talking to Sad Eyes about you. Asking about you. I overheard them say you worked here."

I shut my eyes for a moment, trying to hold it in. Then I exhaled a deep breath. "Well, whatever. How have you been?" "I've been okay. Just keeping my head down. Trying to keep up with everything Spooky has us doing." I didn't say anything in return. We just sat there in silence for a moment. "Um, so what time do you get off?" "I close, so like ten." He nodded, "Do you need a ride home?" I thought about it for a moment. "Yes, that would be great actually." He smiled. "See you at ten then?"

We both stood up. He went in to give me a hug, while I was trying to shake his hand. It was a little awkward. Then we went in again, but this time I tried to hug him, and he tried to shake my hand. We both stopped and laughed. Then we both gave each other a hug. "See you at ten Riella." "Bye Angel."

I walked back behind the counter. Smiling from ear to ear. Jamal looked at me with his arms folded. "Cute. But I need you to show the new guy around." I nodded, "Okay, no problem. Who?"

Cesar walked up from behind him. "Uh, Hey Riella. Long time no see."

My shoulders dropped and I swallowed my spit. Great.
