They say time heals all the wounds, but they don't know the pain of those wounds being ripped open. They don't know how it feels when someone breaks your heart into a million pieces and then tries to waltz back into your life like nothing ever happened. They don't know how it feels when someone you had thought would never hurt you, hurts you the way you would have never imagined was possible.
For Sapna it was hopeless; she had never felt this broken, not even when she had found out about the truth of Ranbir and her relationship. Sure she was depressed. Hell! If it wouldn't have been for her twins, she would have ended her life a long time back. But seeing him again was the worst feeling she ever had. It brought back memories she so desperately wanted to forget.
She had spent years trying to make a life for her and her twins. Nobody can ever understand the struggle she had to go through just to provide a comfortable life for her children. There had been times when she had thought of going back home to her father, but never really dared to face him or any of her brothers any more.
She remembered every minute, every second she had spent with him, and she hated it. She hated herself for trusting somebody like him. She hated herself for loving someone, to whom she was nothing but a bet. She hated herself for still loving him as much as she did all those years back. She closed her eyes and let the tears roll down her cheeks. "Sapna are you alright?" Gina asked, bringing her out of her thoughts.
"Yes I'm fine," she replied trying to hide her emotions. She didn't want to stress her with any more of her burdens. It's not like she hasn't already. Nobody deserves to get even a glimpse of what she had to go through. Gina knew what Sapna was going through, and it hurt her to see her like that. When she had told them about her past, she just couldn't believe that how could someone do something like that to her? No child deserves to have such a fate, especially a good girl like Sapna.
She gave her a glass of water and took a seat next to her. "Are you sure sweetie? If you want to talk about it I'm here for you." She shook her head, "I'm fine Auntie. I'm just a little exhausted. The boys stayed up late last night and had a tough time putting them to sleep." she replied as she took a long sip of water, the cool liquid soothed her burning throat. "You don't have to go through it all by yourself Darling, we are there for you," she assured her as she gently patted her shoulder.
"What I'm I going to do Auntie? He knows about the twins and I know he is not going to keep quiet about it. I'm sure he'll try to take them away from me. They are the only family I have and if I lose them too then I have nothing to live for." Gina gently placed her hand on her shoulder and replied. "Look Sapna, I know I have no right to comment on this but I think you should talk to him. I think that would be better if you both sit together and discuss it."
"It's Ranbir we are talking about. He does what he is told not to do. If I tell him that I don't want him anywhere near me or my children he would just take them away from me." she replied, wiping away her tears. "Then talk to one of his brothers. Maybe they could get him to understand." She shook her head. "I don't want him to understand anything Gina. I just want him to get out of my life. I don't want even his shadow over my boys."
"You have every right to hate him and after what he did to you he deserves it but what about the twins? Why do they have to suffer in this? Don't you think they deserve to have a father in their life? Don't they deserve to have a normal life like all the other kids?" Sapna stared at her in disbelief at what she was trying to tell her. "Listen, sweetheart, maybe God is giving you both another chance to make things right between each other. Think about it one more time."
"I agree with Sapna on this, that son of a bitch, has no right to be anywhere near her or the twins. Doesn't matter if he is their father or not. He has put them through enough already." he stated as he helped himself in one of the empty chairs. "But Charlie, He's the father and he deserves to be a part of their life." Gina tried to reason with him. Why doesn't he understand that she is saying it for her own good?
Sapna placed the glass on the table and stood up. "I think I should go and check on the twins. I haven't heard from then in a while." She excused herself and walked out of the kitchen. Not wanting to talk about it any longer than they already have. Taking a deep breath, she made her way towards the twin's room.
She leaned on the door frame and watched her boys as they played with their new toys. She could feel a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips, as she watched them argue about some cartoon character. She gently cleared her throat making them turn towards her with toothy grins.
"Mommy, did that angry man go away?" Ayan asked. Arjun joined in, "Yes Mommy did he go away? If he doesn't, I will fight him. I will not let him hurt you, Mommy." She couldn't help but smile at his innocence. "We will protect you, Mommy, always and forever," Ayan added. She walked into the room and sat next to them on the floor.
Very soon she will have to tell the twins about Ranbir. Though she thought they may not be able to understand her situation right now it would be better if she did it now instead of letting somebody else do it for her. Tonight she was going to tell them everything, not the details of course, but she was going to tell them that Ranbir is their father.
"Mommy aren't we going to the park in the evening? Remember you had promised to take us today." Arjun asked looking up at her with his wide beautiful eyes. "Of course we are sweetie." She replied ruffling his hair. "Mommy look what I've made." Ayan got up from her side and ran to the other side of the room and returned with his drawing book
She gently took the drawing back from his hand and studied it. It was a picture of a woman holding hands with two little boys, with a title my family wrote on top of it. She gently tugged him close to her and placed a kiss on his forehead. "It's a beautiful baby. Mommy is proud of you." She replied proudly.
"I want a hug too," Arjun complained, making her laugh. "Come here, baby. Mommy is proud of you as well," she stated as she took both her boys into a group hug. This was her world, and this was all she wanted. And she would never let anybody take it away from her.
"Oh my god! There's so much sweetness out here. I might get diabetes-" Maya gushed as she leaned at the door frame with a mischievous smile on her face. "Maya Didi!!" the boys squealed happily as they ran towards her. She picked both of them up and kissed them on her cheeks.
"Hey! What are you doing here, we were about to come to your place right?" Sapna asked as she watched her best friend play with her twins. "Well! Certain someone forgot to call me up and tell me the reason why she had to cancel her date at the last minute. And not to mention the drama that had happened in the morning." Maya replied, making Sapna roll her eyes.
"It wasn't a date Maya and I didn't cancel our meeting. I just rescheduled it," she replied as she sat on the edge of the bed. "So what happened?" she asked as she let the boys go back to what they were doing. "I guess, Gina might have already filled you in about what happened." She nodded. "Yes she did," she replied as she sat next to her on the bed. "Do you want to talk about it?" she asked after a few minutes of silence. "No, I just want to forget about it." She replied shaking her head.
"You know you could talk to me about it, right? And unlike the others, I will always be on your side doesn't matter what decision you make." Sapna nodded. "Maya I just want to forget whatever happened." She didn't seem to be convinced, but she respected her and didn't pester her more. "Okay fine. So is it okay if I take the boys out for a while?"
Sapna gave her a suspicious look. "What are you up to?" she asked with a raised eyebrow. "Well! Gina was planning something special for the boys, and she couldn't do it if they were here," she replied awkwardly. "If that was the case, why didn't she tell me about it?" "Maybe she wanted to surprise you as well." She replied with a shrug.
Sapna didn't seem to be convinced, and she was just about to ask something when her phone started to buzz. And she answered it without bothering to check the ID. Maya watched her as she got up from the bed and walked out, with a worried look on her face. "Maya I think you should take the boys out for a while. Something just came up and I have to go." she hurriedly stated as she walked back into the room.
"What's wrong? Who was it and-" but she cut her off. "I will explain everything once I return. Please take care of them. Don't let them run around." she bent down and kissed the twins on their cheeks, "And you both, be good boys and don't disturb Maya Auntie too much okay? Mommy will be back as soon as possible." she instructed as she bid her goodbyes to her little ones.
