Chapter 10: Todoroki Family Reunion

Todoroki's POV

I went off to see Mom... which was weird because Natsuo and Fuyumi were both there. The second I walked in... they were just surprised to see me there. Except Mom. She was smiling softly, waving gently at me... and she greeted me like my siblings weren't there.

"Welcome back, Shoto."

I nodded my head, trying to avoid the glares of my older siblings... but of course... everything had to crumble. I felt like snapping when they asked me those questions. Fuyumi was the first one to quickly ask a question about me- the usual, "How have you been?"

"Everything's been... well."

"Any girlfriends?" Natsuo asked, and I just fell silent. It was just a week ago since I've asked for (y/n)'s hand... as my girlfriend. I wasn't prepared to tell anyone about my relationship with her. I wanted to keep it close to prevent the rumors and chatter about her. But with my family- I guess it's okay to tell... as long as Endeavor doesn't find out. "Come on... you can tell us three."

I slightly nodded my head, trying to hide my face with my bangs. Of courses... it didn't help much. The shame just washed upon me. I can't imagine what it would be like if he found out about (y/n).

"W-Wait... seriously?!" Natsuo's voice rose to the point where Fuyumi had to back-slap him. "Oww... Fuyu-"

"Stop humiliating him. You're judging Shoto by acting like that- be a bit more mature." She scolds him in Mom's place. I looked up to see Mom's face... and she was stifling a chuckle. Fuyumi sighed heavily, turning to me with a genuine smile. "How is she?"

"Sometimes... I just feel like I don't deserve a girlfriend like her. But I know I want to protect her. I don't care if she's also aiming to be a hero, I don't want her to be hurt in any sort of way. Even though we've officially been together for a week... that sort of feeling just overwhelms me whenever I see her. She's like... II can't put it into words. Forgive me..."

Mom began to speak up with a smile on her face. "That's alright, Shoto. As long as you love her with all your heart, she deserves someone like you. After all... you're my children. Shoto... promise me that you will love her with all your heart."

A smile grew on my face as I heard her words. It warmed my heart. From her own Ice Quirk to warm a frozen heart... it meant everything to me. "I will... Mom... I will love her with all my heart."

"So!" I jumped when Natsuo, once more, rose his voice. "You didn't tell me her name- what's her name, Shoto?"

The process happened again- Natsuo being hit and Fuyumi hitting and scolding him. Mom was chuckling to the point her sides were hurting. Soon enough, we were chatting more and more lively. The hours with Mom soon passed... and it was almost time for us to leave Mom alone here. It never felt this lively before.

"Shoto," Fuyumi begins to say before she left, "you should bring your girlfriend here to meet Mom. I bet she'll love to see this side of the family instead of Father. Don't you think so?" Natsuo paused to see what my answer was going to be. Mom was also looking towards us to see what was going down at her door.

I too paused everything and started to think about it. "I have to ask her first..."

"Send us a message about what her answer would be. We'll visit Mom together."

"I will." Fuyumi and Natsuo left the room, and I was left with Mom.

Of course, I was getting my things to leave before Mom wanted to have a final word with me. "Shoto..." She says in a gentle way. I turned to face her, and she was walking towards me. A smile was on her face as she walked. Her chilling hands reached for my cheeks, holding them like I was 5 years old. "You're a good young man... you know that, right? I'm just glad... that you're growing more mature than before. If she says yes to meet me... I will be honored to have her as company."

I nodded my head, smiling too. "I really do like her, Mom... and I hope we can stay by each other's side in the future. But... is it bad that I have this feeling in the back of my mind...? About Father..."

"He cannot influence you in your love life, Shoto. Whatever you choose, I'll always approve of it. Do you know why, Shoto?" I shook my head, wondering more and more about her words of wisdom. "It's because you're my son. Don't think about Enji like that. He may have done some wrong things... but always remember that you're my son. Follow your own path..."

My head drooped down a bit when I heard her. Once more, my head nodded and I gave a smile. "I will."

"Be good to her." 

"I will."
