It had all happened so fast, Laura barely could remember it. A trainer had come up to Rea and asked for a battle and the fire lion's trainer couldn't help but agree to the fight as her team stirred happily behind her. It had been even for most of the battle, teams of 6 vs 6. Laura and her teammates had easily wiped the floor with five of them- but this final opponent, a Mightyena at least 10 levels above them all, was a challenge.

Sharpay lead the fight- she had the most health and defense- and took a few hits from the grey and black dog from Hoenn, but not even she could make a sizeable dent in the tough dog's health bar. Rea was panicking in the background- Laura could tell by her more frantic movements despite standing still and her heartbeat, which she could easily hear even from the ground.

Laura's red-orange eyes narrowed in on the big dog as she listened to her trainer's panicked muttering. From what she picked up, no one would be able to take another hit- even after a fresh heal. She snapped her tail around, fanning the grass underneath it in anger. The trainer's happy grin from before had turned into an unsettling smile as they waited for Rea and Sharpay's move.

Sharpay was sweating, the panic clear in her eyes despite holding herself high for everyone else. Everyone knew that something had to happen so the battle could end. The small lioness tapped one of her teammates- Froaklin- on the shoulder. The blue frog turned to her and she whispered her plan. It was dangerous, but she swore up and down it would work.

Froaklin hauled himself onto Rea's bag and tapped her shoulder, trying to do so as discreetly as possible. The redheaded trainer turned to the frog, and the wild panic in them was as clear as day. "Laura..." Froaklin shot his eyes to the small lioness, who was stamping one of her paws against the ground angrily, claws bared. "...Has a plan."

The Frogadier whispered the Litleo's plan into his trainer's ear, and Rea turned to the small cat in shock. "She said it would be the only way."

Laura turned her head and looked her trainer in the eyes, firey red pupils locked with shaking blues. The cat nodded, and her trainer slowly nodded back- finally coming to the conclusion that Laura would end up doing what she wanted anyway.

The lioness tuned out her trainer's cry for Sharpay to come back as she sped onto the field, fire boiling in her mouth for a nice Ember. Sharpay bolted from the field to get healed and the two Pokemon passed eachother in seconds.

This, Laura told herself, is pride- what her family would have done. She spat the Ember at the seemingly shocked Mightyena- the large dog yelped and swatted out the small fire that had started on it's fur before snarling and baring its teeth at the small cat.

She didn't hear the words, but she saw it- the large Mightyena came in for a Crunch-

She didn't feel anything, but she knew she had slammed against the ground. Dizzy, Laura tried to lift herself, only for dagger-like needles of pain to pierce her. She let out a cry and fell back to the grass. Multiple sets of stomps quickly approached her as the ground around her became wet, warm and sticky.

She could faintly hear her teammates and Rea screaming, Froaklin roaring orders at Sharpay as their trainer was incapacitated with the frail lioness.

Laura slowly wrenched her eyes open, pain layering on top of more pain as she did so. Her eyes swam in red, which had tainted her vision. Most of her teammates and her trainer had surrounded her- but all she could really focus on was Rea, whose eyes had filled up with tears. She was saying something, but her hearing was starting to leave her, so she only heard whispers of "Stay in there Laura!"

Laura smiled the best she could and, with her quickly fading strength, lifted her paw and put it on her trainer's hand. Rea's already wide, teary eyes widened even more- if she could have, Laura would have laughed, she looked ridiculous- and let out a tiny purr before she let herself collapse back to the dirt.

This, was her destiny, and she was proud to have fulfilled it. Her Ember won them the fight, but her own fire went out.
