Lucille woke up to the dullest room she had ever seen in her young life. It took her a while to realise that she was actually in a hospital room and not at home or still dreaming.
She was alive; she survived.
Then the pain kicked in and she almost wished that she had never woken up in the first place.
"You're awake." The deep toned voice took her by surprise and she winced in pain as she jumped in fright. "Sorry."
Thomas Shelby was sat by her side in the most uncomfortable looking chair.
When Lucille had been taken to the hospital he vowed to himself to stay by her side until she was discharged and to find out what really happened in that room that dreadful day.
Michael was able to give him most of the information he needed once he had caught up with Gina and they spoke (more like argued) that day.
A few of the Peaky boys done some digging and found out that it was actually Lizzie who was the mastermind behind the big plan and that sent Tommy over the edge.
Gina had tried to defend Lizzie but she let a few confessions slip in the process and got herself caught in her web of lies.
How could his own wife even have the guts to have someone do such a thing to Lucille? Not just to Lucille but to anyone was all that ran through his head.
Thomas looked worn out; as if he had been there a while and hadn't changed his clothes or bathed or even moved or ate.
"You look disgusting." He chuckled.
"That's the first thing you say when you wake up from almost dying?" Lucille nods. "Always the sarcastic, eh?"
Her mind was still a bit hazy and she couldn't quite remember everything from that day and so she asked;
"What happened?"
"You got shot, Love." Butterflies swarmed her stomach at the new nickname. Or maybe it was the drugs taking effect now that she was awake and could actually feel them working. "Lizzie had Gina do it. Even paid her a lot of money to get rid of ya. My fuckin' money."
"What a waste of money. It didn't work." Thomas laughed at her nonchalant statement. A real, proper laugh; something he hadn't done since before the War. "Hope you get it all back."
"You're something else, Scotland."
Silence settled upon them and it comforted not only Lucille but also Tommy because he knew that when this silence fell that she was okay where as the last time silence settled upon them he wasn't sure if she was going to live or die in his arms.
"So when am I getting out of here?" Thomas scoffed at her question. "What?"
"You were unconscious for two days; you're not getting out for a while."
