nothing better than to start off a book with good boy dimitri, amiright?

It was the tenth month of year 1180; the month where, at Garreg Mach Monastery, the Battle of the Eagle and Lion would be taking place.
Upon starting to job here as a teacher, you were unfamiliar with the event, however quickly grew more familiar with the idea as time progressed. The house last standing would win, as well as the house with the most "kills" would earn a special reward.
You were currently spectating a practice match between your students, those of the extraordinary Blue Lion House. A time like this required lots of practice, and mock battles between the students were part of your weekly schedule.
Hands on hips, you stood observing each and every student's moves. It was a small arena- the one where monthly tournaments would take place- but it was enough space for a few students to fight at a time.
You would, indeed, have to fight in the battle as well, as it helped improve your skills as the students' professor. It was only natural that everyone had to stay a close leveled distance within each other.
Currently, the fight was between Annette, Ashe, and Ingrid. You figured that, rather than making students fight those of the same class and attack range, they would learn more if fighting one with skills different from theirs. Hence, resulting in this odd group.
Ashe fired a shot at Ingrid, who skillfully blocked the arrow with her lance and swung at the archer. While she was distracted, Annette used this to her advantage and cast a wind spell, blowing Ingrid back so Ashe could deal the finishing blow.
With one out of the match, it became a long battle of constant firing and mixing, eventually leading to you having to call off the match. "Good practice," you raised your hand, signaling the end of the battle. "Though I typically would consult your teamwork, Ashe and Annette, I appreciate seeing you put it to use. Next time, however, it will be different. Keep that in mind."
"Ah, sorry, professor..." Annette lowered her head. "Is there anything to do to make up for it? I could bake sweets! That is, an, if you like them..."
"It's alright, Annette, though I appreciate the offer," you sigh. "Besides, it was partially a compliment. No need to feel down."
Lifting Annette's spirits to the point where her usual smile returned to her face, you cast a glance at the students who had not fought yet.
"For this battle, I will be fighting," you decided. Any volunteers to go against me?"
A few students raised their hands, and so you picked out the ones in which you saw first. "Dimitri and Mercedes. You two will go up against me."
"Time to show you my skill, professor~!" Mercedes lightly grinned, reaching for the bow that she typically used in combat.
Dimitri, on the other hand, grabbed his lance and turned towards you as you spoke. "I expect great results out of you, considering you are the house leader."
"I can assure that you will not be disappointed, professor."
"We'll see about that."
The three of you occupied the corners of the arena, your makeshift judge, Ingrid (perhaps one of the more responsible students in the class) stood in the other. "The match will begin... now!" She chimed.
Almost immediately, an arrow from Mercedes was fired at you, but you deflected it off in such a manner that it hit your sword and flew at Dimitri instead. Pulling a strategy that you often used during legit fights, you started towards Dimitri; but upon nearing him, swerved to the side and struck Mercedes on the shoulder, marking her out.
