California, Los AngelesOfficer Daniel Ramirez:
I tossed and turned all morning. When I returned from my shift it was 2am and I was beyond exhausted. Though my mind wouldn't settle, I continuously kept thinking about Morgan. 'Where'd she go? How'd she get there? When'd she leave? Does she have money?' Those questions kept spinning circles in my head. It really angered me that I didn't know any of the answers. On the contrary I guess it was good that I didn't know. Or else it would have been my legal obligation to tell. Sometimes I hated being a cop, I basically pledged my life away to the boys in blue. With a sigh I got up, it was already 8am. I effortlessly pick up Babe before walking into my living room. Turning on the TV I switch through channels.
*Ring*
*Ring*
*Ring*
*Ring*"Coming!" I shouted at whoever was constantly pressing my doorbell. I smiled slightly, it reminded me of Mo. 'Wait! What if it is!' I quickly rushed to the door, swinging it open. My shoulders sank as I saw the Maintenance man standing in my doorway with packages.
"These came in the mail for you but they won't fit in the box. Here." He snapped, shoving the packages in my chest. I scramble to grab them securely as I watch him walk away. Stunned, I shut my door.
"What a prick" I roll my eyes, walking into the kitchen before putting the packages down onto the dining table. I take a seat, reading the labels.
'Lila Davis
Daniel James Ramirez
1530 Petroly St apt 1080
Los Angeles, CA, 92101FRAGILE'
"Lila Davis?" I ask, flipping the package over for a return address. Seeing there was none I carefully opened it. I gently pull out a bubble wrapped container.
"What?" I ask, unwrapping it to reveal a Nutella container. 'Who the...' I trailed off, twisting open the container. It was a brand new, still sealed container of Nutella. I look back into the package for anything else, coming up empty. I set the jar aside, opening the next small package.
"Dear Danni" I read aloud, quickly noticing Morgan's handwriting. I look back at the jar, smiling. 'Figures Morgan would send a jar of Nutella' I shake my head. This girl never fails to amaze me.
"You always promised me you'd try Nutella.
Though you never did, surprising considering
you love sweets. As much as I hate to give
away the free jar of Nutella you gave me, I
figured you should keep it. Now, I know I can't
tell you much but take this as a hint that I'm
okay. I'm sending you this on Dec. 3rd.
Though I'm sorry I couldn't say bye in person.
I'll miss you Danni. Once I'm older and clear,
I'll come back for you. ANYWAYS, don't fret
too much I'll send you letters and postcards
every chance I get. Most likely every two days.
I also left you a lil something as a thank you,
for everything you've done for me :)
