"Yeah Yeah I heard you the first time Hiyori." you laughed as Shinji sat yelling at the blond girl over the phone. He hung up with a frown, clenching his teeth. "It's like she has nothing better to do than pick fights. "

"Maybe if you stopped pissing her off she wouldn't yell Shinji." he grumbled under his breath. You were just teasing. Anyone who knew Hiyori knew that it was easy to piss her off. "Things are a lot better with you guys back though. It feels like old times. " you laid back on your hands staring at the sky. You were just hanging out in the Fifth Division. A few of the visoreds had retained their previous positions. Shinji was a captain again as well as..

"Kensei! How's life treating you?" your ears perked up and your back straightened. Your head turned and a visible flush covered your cheeks at the sight of the buff male. He gave a grin, taking a seat down next to Shinji. "You know, the usual. Not much has changed. " he spoke leaning against the wall. You kept your gaze forward as you addressed him.

"I-It's nice to see you Muguruma-taicho." he glanced at you. "We've known each other for ages. I keep telling you to stop with the formalities. " he said, almost annoyed. "B-But your my superior i-it's disrespectful!" he just sighed. "Hey! I'm your superior and you never address me formally. " Shinji protested. "Shut up Shinji!!" you countered. Kensei laughed out loud, and you swore you almost stopped breathing. He reached over ruffling your hair. You looked down shyly and he continued to smile at you. Shinji watched the exchange without saying a word. When the war was done, you were shocked to find out that all your friends had been alive this entire time. Back when Kisuke was part of the Gotei 13, they had all been reported dead. Back then you never believed that Kisuke was responsible, but you couldn't exactly voice that. Now that the truth was out and you had your friends you were overjoyed. But you were back to square one in regards to hiding your feelings.

"Kensei!!" you looked up when you heard the familiar voice of Kensei's Lieutenant. An irk mark sprung on his forehead. "Mashiro what is it this time!!" He pulled his hand back standing and you felt a bit disappointed at the loss of contact.

"Quit being a big meanie, you promised you would take me to the festival tonight in Karakura." she whined. "Damn, I forgot about that. " he said as if just recalling. He looked back at you and Shinji. "I'll catch you guys later. " Mashiro hooked her arm into his pulling him along. They continued to argue back and forth, slowly leaving your view. Your heart clenched at the scene.

"Are you still hung up on him?" you tensed. "I-I don't know what you're.." he gave you a blank look and you just kept your eyes low. "Lisa told me. Even if she didn't anyone could see it. You're so obvious." you raised your eyes glaring at him. "Why don't you just tell him how you feel. " you fiddled with your fingers. You never had the courage to tell him years ago, now you had a second chance but you were still a coward. "I-I can't.." you muttered. You didn't want to admit it but you could tell. He and Mashiro had something going on. Shinji assured you that all the years he'd never seen any sign of that, but you knew better. They were close, friendship like that could easily turn to something else in the blink of an eye. Shinji just watched you. "So you're going to keep pining after him for another few hundred years." he asked sarcastically. You frowned, standing. "I..I don't want to talk about this anymore!" you turned your back to him storming off. Shinji didn't understand anything.

"(Y/N)-san." you smiled, turning to Hanataro. He was helping you with a wound on your shoulder. You got a bad injury from a hollow in the Rukon district. One of it's attacks had connected with your body. It was a lack of judgement on your part. "Sorry did I zone out again?" you asked. He nodded with a small laugh. "I thought you fell unconscious for a second, you were so quiet." you shook your head. "I'm fine, I was just a bit too reckless with that hollow." you watched as his hands glowed, passing over your shoulder. "I'm glad you're okay." he said with a relieved smile. You giggled. "Thanks Hanataro. " He nodded, focusing back on your injury. A few minutes passed as he healed you. When he was done he wore a broad smile. "I think that's it. If you still get pains please come back. Unohana-taicho says that sometimes we get delayed reactions to injuries. "

"I understand. " you rolled your robes back up, your shoulder standing up.

"Hey Hanataro, can you do me a favor? Don't say anything to Shinji he'll just tease me about it."

He blinked before giving you a thumbs up. "No problem, I won't say a word!" he assured. You hugged him. "Thanks, see ya later!!" you ran out rushing to your squad barracks.

"Glad he didn't come looking for me, not really in the mood to get a lecture. " you kept your eyes forward as you walked. You stretched and flexed your shoulder, jumping from building to building. Shinji's words were still fresh in your mind. He was right. Were you going to spend more years hoping Kensei would return your feelings? Maybe he did all this time but he never said anything. You stopped jumping, landing on the ground. "Maybe I should confess.."

Just the thought made your heart beat irregularly. You couldn't avoid it forever.

"Alright! I'm going to tell him." you decided. When Kensei got back from the World of the Living, you would finally tell him. You weren't going to run anymore.
