"So you work here now?" I asked Cesar as I showed him how to set the tables

"So you work here now?" I asked Cesar as I showed him how to set the tables. He nodded, "Yeah. I just wanted a summer job, something to keep me busy." I nodded, "Oh, that's good." "Yeah." We started refilling the ketchup bottles on the tables and restocking the napkins. "Well, the job is pretty easy. You just have to deal with Jamal." We both laughed. Then he stopped. "Riella? Can I ask you something?"

I looked up at him. "What happened? What happened with you and my brother?" I shook my head. "Cesar, I don't know. I don't really want to talk about that." "Well I do. Whatever happened made you stop talking to me too." "I didn't make that decision." "Then who did? Oscar?" "Cesar let's just focus on the ketchup." "Well, whatever happened, I had nothing to do with it. So can we please call a truce. Especially since we'll be working together?" I nodded. "Okay." He smiled at me. "I can't lie, I really miss you over at the house. Oscar is the worst grocery shopper. He likes to get all of this fancy stuff, that no one knows how to cook but him. And he always forgets to get snacks."

I couldn't help but laugh. He was telling the truth. That was one of the reasons I like to do all of their grocery shopping. If it was up to Oscar, their refrigerator would be filled with things like octopus, fresh fish and fresh mozzarella. He never really liked buying snacks. He would always complain that they had no real nutritional value. He was right, but Cesar is a kid. He needed snacks. "Aww, yeah sorry. I know he isn't."

I continued to show him around the restaurant and teach him a few of the easy things for the rest of the day. At nine we locked up the restaurant and started cleaning. "So, do you need a ride home?" Cesar asked me. I looked at him and frowned a little, "You driving now?" He shook his head, "Nah." Then I looked at him for a few more minutes. "Who's picking you up?" "Oscar." I huffed, "Oh." "Riella, what happened with you two?"

I shook my head, "Ask him."

We continued to clean up everything and then locked up the front door as we walked outside to wait on our rides. I sat on top of one of the outside tables and Cesar sat next to me. "How is school going though?" He sighed and tossed his head from side to side. "I don't know. I guess okay." I frowned a little, "What do you mean? What's wrong?" "Well, it's Monse." My eyes opened up wide. "What about Monse?" He started smiling and blushing a little. "Oh My God! You have a crush on her don't you!?" He just smiled and shook his head.

Before we could talk anymore, we were cut off by the loud blaring of mexican rap music coming down the street. I looked up and saw the infamous red impala coming down the street slowly. "Well I guess I'll see you later Cesar." He stood up. "You know, you can still come by the house. Even if it's just to see me." I shook my head, "Nah, it's cool. I'll see you at work." He nodded. Oscar pulled up in his impala and parked. He had on his shades and he was looking directly at me and Cesar. "See you later Riella." "Yeah." Cesar walked over and got into the passenger seat. But Oscar kept looking in my direction.

I pulled out my phone and tried to focus on it to avoid him. Then he turned to Cesar to ask him something and Cesar shrugged his shoulders and said something back to him. I was about to just get up and start walking when another car pulled up. Angel. I don't think I've ever been happier to see him. I smiled as he parked a few spots down from Oscar. I could see Oscar frown behind his shades. His forehead scrunched up and he gripped the steering wheel. I hopped down from the table and walked over to Angel's car and got into the passenger seat.

Oscar turned his music up even more and then backed out. I know he was pissed, but he made this decision. Not me. "Thank you for picking me up Angel." He nodded, "It's not problem at all hermosa." I bit my bottom lip some, "I'm sorry if this gets you in trouble with Oscar." He shook his head, "It's his loss. He won't say anything though. He tries to act like he doesn't care about you. When we all know he still does." I sunk down in my seat some. Angel backed the car out and started driving. "You hungry mamita?" I shook my head, "No I'm good. Thank you." He nodded.

He drove me home and pulled into the driveway. As we pulled in, I glanced across the street and saw the Santos outside. They were drinking and smoking, usual shit. I took a deep breath as Angel parked the car. He put his hand on my thigh, "You okay?" I nodded, "Yeah, just tired." I opened my door and got out, Angel did as well. He walked me to my door. "Thank you for the ride Angel." "You're welcome. When do you work again?" "Tomorrow." "You close?" I nodded my head. "Cool, you want me to pick you up again?" "If you don't mind?" He shook his head, "Of course not. I'll see you tomorrow hermosa." I smiled at him and gave him a hug before I walked inside.
