Chiming loudly for the whole monastery to hear, the bell signaled the end of a long day of class.
With a sigh, you climbed out of your seat, locking your arms upward in a stretch. Class was growing slightly tougher than usual, as your professor was starting to teach in another unit of combat, one you were not familiar with.
Being a bow user yourself, learning about subjects such as sword and axe were typically a challenge. Nevertheless, you did your hardest to pay attention in class and learn as much as you could.
You grabbed your notebook and exited the Black Eagle's house's classroom. It was generally loud at the end of the day due to students lingering and socializing, but you had other business to attend to; lots and lots of studying.
Rather than sitting in the chapel or occupying a table in the dining hall, you made your way to your nice, quiet room. You wouldn't consider yourself to be a loner, but you weren't exactly the most talkative of the group. You only had one relatively close friend, and that was your childhood friend, Caspar.
He was that annoying type of friend that you would often have to shut up and perhaps slap if he grew too ecstatic, but after being friends with him for many years, you grew used to it. Anyway, it wasn't like he was a terrible person. You happened to enjoy the kid's company quite a lot.
Finally stumbling upon your dorm and enclosing yourself inside, you set the papers you had been carrying onto the room's provided desk. There was a test tomorrow, and you had to be prepared.
Alright! You nodded confidently to yourself, grabbing a pen. Time to get working!
That is, ah, until the phenomenon of obnoxious knocking occurred at your door.
And right as I was about to start, too... You grunt, getting up from your chair and twisting the doorknob so that your visitor was in sight.
And behold! It was none other that Caspar himself.
"Hey y/n!" He grinned. "You down for some training soon?"
"Caspar, you've asked me this a million times and my answer will always be no," you crossed your arms. "Remember how you were supposed to ask everyone else before coming to me?"
"Well yeah, but everyone is busy doing their own stuff," he pleaded. "C'mon, I need to get stronger!"
You patted his head with a sigh. "You're strong enough as is. Give it a rest."
"Hrmmm." He grumbled. "Then, fine. I'll just hang out here."
Caspar practically invited himself into your room, falling onto the floor with a splat. With a sigh, you accepted the fate that was destined to come and proceeded to march right back to your desk. "Just... please be quiet," you grab your pen once more.
"Yeah yeah, I gotcha."
The sound of scribbling was the only audible thing in the room as you worked quietly. However, while you did so, Caspar watched you from his seat on the floor.
"Do you mind?"
"Is that tonight's homework? Axe stuff, yeah?"
"Yeah, it is."
Immediately he sprung to his feet, gripping the edge of the chair you sat at. "I can help!"
"Why are you always so eager to do things..." the boy always managed to give you a migraine when you hung out together, and he didn't cease to accomplish his goal this time, either. "Sure, whatever. Just explain it in a language I can actually understand."
"Suuuure thing."
Caspar, without knowing how much shock this would bring to you, leaned both his arms over your shoulder so that he was basically leaning over you from behind. Your face flushed over immediately, lighting smacking his arm.
"Caspar, aren't you a bit, uhm... close?"
And yet, Caspar didn't even seem to hear you as he slowly went over the subject, explaining each concept in an astonishing amount of detail.
As the session went on, your face still coated with the pink hue of blush, you found his explanation surprisingly helpful. Ah, not that you thought Caspar was dumb- he just seemed to portray that side of himself whenever you were around.
Finally, his words came to a close, and you briefly scanned over the page. "W-wow," you blinked. "I think I'm actually starting to understand this a bit more. Thanks, Caspar."
"Don't mention it!" Caspar leaned backwards freeing you from his unintentional hold, this time seating on the edge of your bed. "If you need any more help, I'll be riiiight here."
"O-ok."
Your shoulders were beginning to feel cold as the air settled in on them, whereas when Caspar...
No, crap! I can't think like that!
You continued working, this time independently, repeatedly going over phrases written on the sheet in hopes of clearing your mind; but no matter the effort, your brain kept repeating the scene that had occurred, over and over again until your heart was beating at it's limit.
You scribbled down an answer to the finally question and climbed out of the chair. "Uh, Caspar?"
But, when you turned around, you found that your friend had fallen asleep- on your bed.
"Ah," you sharply inhale, before releasing the breath in the form of a sigh, sitting on the ground. "Guess I'm sleeping on the floor tonight..."
