Prologue

Dani stumbled as the ground beneath her started to shake. Parts of the wall crumbled away to reveal nothing but death and darkness behind them. Fear wrapped around her heart and made her shake as she slowly started to take steps back from a growing black fog. It was eating away at the walls and ceiling leaving the ground the crumble into the darkness below. It was as if it was alive and wanted to not only destroy the world but to destroy her too.

            “Run”

The thought whispered to her mind and it was all she need to turn and run down the hall. A screeching like noise echoed behind her as the darkness started to move faster. She knew she didn’t have much time and wanted to try and stop it. At the end of the hall way she could see the single window and knew it would be her only hope.

The more she ran the faster everything seemed to be falling apart. From the corner of her eye she could see the walls next to her disappearing and was sure that if she were to look behind her all she would see would pure darkness. A burning sensation slowly made its way as she pushed herself even more to continue running. All her muscles were screaking for her to stop, that it was futile, for the closer she got the further away the window would get.

            “Don’t give up, save us”

“I’m trying…” She whispered while her fingers curled up into fists. Closing her eyes tight she imagined herself just a few feet from the window. When she opened her eyes she found herself at it and peering out of the window.

Her eyes instantly went to the man that was pulling the papers, that she had spent years creating, off of her walls. Tears shinned in his puff eyes and she felt a twang of pain in her chest at the thought that she was the cause for his pain. A cold breeze from behind reminded her that she didn’t have much more time.

“Dad!” She shouted as loudly as she could as her fists slammed into the window, “Stop it dad! I’m not dead, I’m right here!” Her screams became more frantic as he pulled more papers off the wall and tore them to pieces, “Dad! Please stop it!” Hot tears ran down her eyes and shimmer of hope ran through her as he turned to where she was.

He walked over and reached his hand out to her. A smile curved her lips and she wiped at her tears. But he did what she had not suspected; he tore off the paper, plunging her into darkness.

            “I can’t believe it… We lost…”
