In 2021, a devastating nano-virus swept across the poverty-stricken country of South Africa. The virus caused the host to grotesquely mutate and become delirious - and violent. Millions were infected, and millions more died in the ensuing chaos.
In 2023, a group of scavengers happened upon a town named Brazenwall, located in the Western Cape. Two of these scavengers stayed behind; the other left to bring news back home to what remained of the Republic of South Africa.
In 2024, the town of Brazenwall became the capital of an independent country in what remained of the East and Western Provinces of South Africa; the Republic of South Africa became the Northern Union, while the sparsely populated (and highly dangerous) area between Brazenwall and the Northern Union (N.U.) was referred to as The Grey Zone.
The N.U. and Brazenwall found themselves embroiled in increasingly violent territorial disputes with each other and the smaller factions inside the Grey Zone.
By 2025, the two nations were at war.
In 2035, the town dispatched a military patrol to a nearby section of warehouses in what was formerly known as Gqeberha.
