Chapter 5 Reality

"I...I can't quite comprehend. What do you mean that this is the flu?" Being confused on what the student president said, Chaeryeong asked alongside Lia being baffled as the science club member.

Letting out a sigh, Ryujin explained. "You do know I'm the council president, right? When there are unexpected scandals or leakages of negative things like suicide for an example. We tend to hide the truth from the students." She made a second thought of exposing such thing but Ryujin believed that at such time, school reputation and image doesn't count anymore. "But why?" with Chaeryeong still not getting the point, she asked but the other person who's been quiet for a while answered.

"To avoid public panic" Choi Lia responded. Finally getting the point that the news must be covering what's really happening to avoid panic from the citizens. "How sure are you? I mean... what if it's just this school and coincidentally happened at the same time as the virus?" Chaeyeong wondered once again. "That's why we need to get out there."

Ryujin took the baseball bat displayed at the corner of the room and stood in front of the door, getting ready to head out.

"Are you really heading out? I know you're the student president, but I never thought that being fearless was a requirement." Lia blurted not believing the bravery of Shin Ryujin. "I need to find Yuna." The latter answered with a stern voice. "Are you insane?! Shin Ryujin, there's a thin line between bravery and foolishness." Lia continued being pissed at how determined this girl was. As if the student president doesn't fear death.

Ryujin turned to look at her bitch company. "So, what are you gonna do? Wait? You'll die here waiting." With old stare, the student president countered. "She's right though, with the news stating an emergency lockdown, it means that this occurrence is getting out of control. We only have ourselves to reach a checkpoint." Chaeryeong supported, not wanting the two to continue to argue at a moment like they're in.

"With or without you, I'm going" gone impatient, Ryujin stated. Successfully pulling the table that was blocking the door and after she took a deep breath, the student president headed out when the coast was clear. Lia remained immobile trying to decide what to do. Chaeryeong was left torn with the two but later decided to take the scissors on the table to follow Ryujin.

The moment Chaeryeong closed the door, the dark space consumed Lia. Her fear on being in the dark suddenly crawled up to her as if it'll swallow her any moment. She wanted to be firm on staying but soon gave up. "It's better to die together that alone anyway." She defeatedly stated to herself trying to cover the fact that her phobia was eating her up. "But what's with all that loosening of necktie and taking off her eyeglasses? Will she even see properly without that?" pertaining to Ryujin, Lia funnily hissed upon following them.

The journey to the gymnasium to find Yuna started off smoothly. With the place being dark, Chaeryoung uses her phone's light every now and then to check the path if it was clear but also not to draw attention from those unwanted things. Upon briefly looking back and forth and staying alert to their surroundings, Chaeryeong saw Lia sneaked beside her. She almost screamed at Lia's sudden appearance, but the latter was able to cover Chaeryeong's mouth.

After calming from her almost heart attack experience, Chaeryoung whispered "Thank God, you came". Ryujin on the other hand, notice the slight commotion behind her confirming Lia's presence. "You didn't choke?" she whispered enough for them to hear. Being bewildered with the sudden statement, Lia asked back "Choke on what?". Lia thought that this president already gone mad and started saying weird things, but the answer got her perfectly annoyed. "I don't know. Maybe from swallowing your pride?" Ryujin said it with an innocent tone which perfectly irritate the other. At the same time, Chaeryeong bit her lips to stop herself from laughing at the statement.

"Hey! I'm just concern. I was giving you options" abruptly standing up, she defended. Unfortunately, she lost sense of being discreet that her voice echoed on the whole floor. Ryujin and Chaeryeong pulled her down in a rush. "we better leave this spot fast" Ryujin commanded with the other two making a move on cue.

Not long after, the trio was stopped by two teachers who came out from the teacher room's open door. The three was cautious as they recognized them as one of those things already. Once captured by those things' senses, the three backed away swiftly opening a room to hide. Ryujin and Chaeryeong entered, crouching their way at the back of a table where the moon's light won't reach them. But the two failed to realize another infected standing by the door when they entered. The infected was about to attack them but it's attention was diverted by the supposedly entering Lia.

Lia froze seeing another infected. She briefly looked at the two who also made eye contact, she saw how Ryujin was about to stand up and run towards her, but Lia decided to run elsewhere. Attracting the three infected to follow her.

"Oh my god!" Chaeryeong exclaimed and was ready to follow Lia but Ryujin held her arm to stop her. Taken aback, Chaeryeong looked at the student president waiting for an explanation on her sudden action. Looking down, not wanting to hear her own words, Ryujin stated "We need to keep moving. We can't waste her effort"

Chaeryeong wanted to argue, she never thought that she would be put in a situation where they need to let go of others and not help them. She wanted to go but making her mind to function dominantly, she finds Ryujin's reasoning to be absolutely valid. She took note of how the student president was also shaken from the events while stating her side. She knew that it was hard for the both of them to come up with such decision and all was left was to move forward.

They heard few screams here and there but the two manages to arrive at the gymnasium safe. Entering inside the gym, the duo noticed some of the spotlights of the gym was on. There showed a girl was standing with her floorball stick leaning on her body. Both her and the floorball stick was showered with blood. She stood in trance looking at the unmoving bodies on the bloody floor.

"Yu...Yuna..." Ryujin called out not believing what she's seeing. Hearing her name made yuna snapped from her gaze and looked at the duo's direction. And almost on cue seeing a familiar face, Yuna's tears flowed. "R...Ryujin... I... I think I k..killed people..." Yuna was still in shocked on what happened. With her young age, she can't believe she witnessed such blood bath adding to the fact that she made that scene.

Ryujin and Chaeryeong understood Yuna's feeling. They can't imagine what the young floorball player had gone through leading to such mess. They unsteadily approached Yuna , speechless of the scene they're seeing. But before they could reach her, Chaeryeong noticed some of the dead bodies moved a little before finally rising behind Yuna. Two infected appeared behind the younger girl and was about to attack her.

"BEHIND YOU!" Chaeryoung shouted trying to alert the distress floorball player. Ryujin tried to run and help her but she completely knew that it was almost impossible to reach her younger childhood friend with those things just a meter away from her.

Everything felt like a slow motion with gasps, groans and footsteps the only things being audible for Ryujin. Not until a silver light reflected from the gym's lights, It was something that passed inches beside the student president's cheek and in a blink of an eye both infected were struck with arrows on their head making them drop to the floor.

In a snap, Yuna completely got back to her senses, hearing the bodies dropped from behind while Ryujin and Chaeryeong turned to where the arrow possibly came from, only to see a familiar face.
