Choking on laughter, y/n jerked the steering wheel to the right to make a sharp turn, then continued on a short trail straight-bound until she crossed the finish line with a breeze.
Frank slammed down his controller in frustration and glared at her menacingly.
She smirked. "Well, I believe that settles it then."
Ray shook his head in amazement. "Y/n really is the best at Mario Kart. I can't believe she beat you twice in a row, Frank."
"That's the way I roll." She cracked her fingers, somewhat half-joking in this arrogant demeanor she was putting up. Being competitive was thrilling, especially when it was with her friends.
Back in the kitchen, the microwave closed sharply and Gerard came bounding into the living room carrying a glorious display of pizza rolls placed neatly on a plate. Ray, Mikey, and Frank watched as she stood before Gerard and bowed her head.
"I hereby anoint you," he began regally, "the first-ever ... queen of Mario Kart. As a token of your success, I present you with exactly fourteen, fully cooked pizza rolls."
"The last pizza rolls," echoed Ray.
"Thank you," y/n said with a smile, graciously accepting the gift. "It is with great honor that I accept this title. And what a great shame--" she aimed a pointed look at Frank beside her, "that I am unable to share this wonderful prize with anyone else."
Frank scowled at her, and she glared back at him. But they couldn't hold it for long; the entire matter was so ridiculous that they ended up bursting into laughter. The enlightened sound bounced off the thin walls of the house.
"Who am I kidding, everyone dig in," she said and they shared the plate of pizza rolls.
"So, Frank," began Mikey, mouth full, "how does it feel to lose to a girl?"
"You say that like it's a bad thing," retorted Frank. "She's no less capable of beating me just because she's a girl."
Y/n patted his arm affectionately. "And that, my friends, is what Frankie is my favorite."
"Not favorite enough for you to let me win, though, huh?"
She pointed at him. "Don't push it, Iero. You know I could easily demolish you in any game in this house."
Frank shoved a pizza roll in his mouth. "Prove it."
She raised an eyebrow in question. "I wouldn't get so gutsy, motherfucker. Your wounds are still fresh from that upsetting loss just now."
Frank brushed off his hands and went to the fridge for water. "No, I'm serious. Mario Kart...it's only one subject. Name anything, and I guarantee I can beat you in it."
She exchanged a glance with Gerard, who raised his eyebrows with interest. "Sure you wanna do that, Frankie?" he asked.
"She's proven to be tough to beat," added Ray.
"And combined with the lack of a Y chromosome," said Mikey, trying to recover from his previous comment, "you might not even stand a chance. "
Frank crossed his arms and stared at me. "I'm not scared."
She sized him up, wondering where this would lead to. But if there was any part of herself that she stayed true to, it was that she never backed down from a challenge.
