"- and that is why I cannot visit you the coming weeks. I still cannot believe he actually gave me detention. I am really gonna- are you even listening?"

Mark just then realized he messed up. He should have at least pretended to have listened to his annoying best friend Lucas, but he just couldn't. Not when Donghyuck was so close to Renjun. He knows he should not care, he lost the right to be jealous many years ago, but he still isn't able to look away from his former best friend at another lunch table with someone else than him.

Lucas sighs. "Mark, I know you miss Donghyuck, but come on! I am your friend now, you really shouldn't ignore me, unless you want the same thing to happen all over again. I swear I'm ju- hey! Where are you going?!"

Mark knows he is going to regret this, but god, Donghyuck and Renjun were driving him insane. He stood up and walked over to them, ignoring all of Lucas' protests.

Just when Mark took a few steps in their direction, he lost all courage. What am I even doing...

"Mark, come on, let's go back, I'm not going to let you do something you will regret the moment you do it." Mark silently follows Lucas back to their table, not noticing the questioning glance Renjun threw their way.

Mark is even more annoyed when math class started. He pretends his bad mood has nothing to do with the two people sitting in front of him, but who was he kidding?

Desperately trying to ignore their whispering and occasional touching, he concentrates on his assignment.

He groans. There is no way he is able to work this way, and the assignment is due that night. Before he can change his mind, he taps Renjun's shoulders. "Can you please be quiet? Some people actually have to do the assignment. You have been talking the whole period." Mark spits out.

Renjun looks shocked."I'm so sorry, we'll be quiet." Then, Donghyuck turns around too and spit back "Well, we actually were working on the damn assignment and are definitely not the only two people talking. What is your problem?"

Lie, lie, lie. "Sorry, I just really need to finish this assignment." Donghyuck and Renjun turn back around. Renjun with an apologetic smile, and Donghyuck  with a scowl.

Mark sighs. Well, that didn't go as planned.

Finally, math class was over. Renjun had finished the assignment days ago, so being there was just a waste of time. Just when Mark was out of sight, Renjun turns to Donghyuck and scolds him. "That was totally unnecessary! Why were you so mean to him?!"

Donghyuck doesn't even look slightly apologetic. "He lashed out first though? Are you really going to let Mark step all over you?"

Renjun sighs. He knows this will be like arguing with a wall. When it  comes to Mark, Donghyuck will lose all rationality and just plainly be mean. He often wonders why, though. He knows the two had been best friends, but that was until a few years back. The reason for them falling out has always been unbeknownst to him.

What he does know, though, is that for now, it does seem that the hatred is one-sided. He just has to know what had happened for friends who were that close, to act like strangers almost instantly.
