Chapter 1
There was a cool breeze outside which made the autumn leaves hanging from the lean tree branches float in the air and roll on the fresh grass. The trees must be bidding farewell to autumn and welcoming another season. I then drove back my attention from the nature outside my class to Mrs.Suman who was explaining a particular chapter. Her lecture just sounded like a bunch of jumbled up words to me. I had this problem from a very young age. I become distracted very fast and no matter how hard I try, there is always something stopping me from concentrating in my classes. I knew I had missed a lot from what Mrs. Suman was teaching and tried my best to pay attention. I gently tapped my fingers on my table as I began to feel restless just when I heard the departure bell. Oh! How happy I felt ! I stuffed my books and other belongings in my bag impatiently and got ready to leave when I heard a cry from behind me. "Arohi !" The shout sounded familiar. I turned to find Samiksha hurrying from her cornermost seat. "Hey Sam" I waved as she approached towards me. " So did you pay attention in english class?" She asked as we walked out of the class. "Yeah" I said trying to sound confident. She then gave me a look which proved she didn't believe me. " Are you sure?" she paused and cleared her throat " Then you wouldn't mind if I ask you a question from today's chapter which was midsummer night's dream. Would you?" She asked raising her eyebrows.I nodded and Samiksha began with her question." How are Oberon and Titania related?" She asked as she saw me looking puzzled. I thought for a while and answered "They are sisters, Aren't they?" . "They are husband and wife, silly" said Sam giggling. You see, this was the thing about me. I can be bubbly and fun loving but my memory was horrible. I could remember all the events from my childhood like when Arjun, my brother was born, how I used to pinch his ear as I was jealous of the attention he was receiving. Also that one time in first grade, when I sneaked out of my room in the dead of the night to eat two scoops of ice-cream even though mom had forbidden me to due to the severe cold I had but my temptations got the worst out of me. I still remember the throat pain I had the next day. Like this, I can remember incidences very well but when it comes to memorising or paying attention to something. Nope, I had some trouble.
Sam and I walked till our school gates and waved at some of our classmates who were departing with their parents. We boarded an auto rickshaw. Samiksha and I talked about our siblings and she also told me the funny tricks which her labrador could perform. In a while, I saw the auto driver gesture towards my house. "Oh here I am" I said as I got down and opened my wallet to draw some money. I gave the auto driver some money and as he left I waved to Samiksha who looked quite busy looking at her watch. In time, the auto disappeared with Samiksha from the lane.I walked to my house and knocked at the door. I could hear approaching footsteps and the unlocking of the door and as the door became ajar, I saw Arjun looking at me with a cunning face. I walked inside and hanged my bag on a hook. I then rushed to the kitchen as i was famished where mom was cooking something delicious "What are you making mom?" I asked smelling the sweet aroma which tickled my nose. "Just some pancakes" she said and paused as she diverted her attention towards me "So, How was your school today?" she asked looking at me with curiosity. "The usual" I paused and sighed "you know, not able to pay attention again." I said with a disappointed grunt. "We know it is hard for you Aro" she paused as she held my hand in hers "But we are trying our best by consulting many doctors and clearly even they are quite confused about your case but look on the bright side, they have said yoga and meditation can increase your concentration" She said as she smiled. "Thanks mom" I said as I took my plate of pancakes to the hall. I hurried to get the tv remote but I was too late. The tv was already occupied by Arjun. He giggled as he saw me groan in frustration. As the TV was already taken, my next favourite spot was the sit-out. We have a small verandah which is located outside the house and I love sitting outside. I walked to the verandah and sat there as I observed the nature. The greenery in our society didn't look very beautiful today as compared to another day as the trees had lost their leaves. The leaves enhance the beauty of nature and without them, the trees will only be a brown, pale branches. Even though the nature today looked pale, the wind chill was strong enough to make you go numb. As I sat there among the nature and savouring every bite of my pancake, I noticed something or more like someone. There was a girl who was wandering on the streets. She was really tall and thin. Her fair and bright skin was covered with red bobbed cheeks. Her lustrous, wavy, hazel brown hair was neatly bobbed by her shoulder. She shambled on the the streets and glared at the dried leaves that hung from them. She had an extraordinary glow around her which made her look like a goddess from a tv show. She didn't seem to notice me and murmured something to herself. She looked at her hand and touched a dry leaf which hung from the tree and to my surprise in a matter of few seconds, the dry leaf was no longer dry but it turned into a fresh new , dark green leaf. She did the same thing to three other hard dry leaves and all of them turned into soft spring leaves. I looked at all of this with my mouth opened due to astonishment. She then turned towards my direction and spotted me. I expected her to be terrified at the fact that someone was observing her the whole time but instead she smiled at me .I did not know how to react and smiled back at her. I wanted to see what she does but suddenly there was a clash in the kitchen which made me turn around with a start. " It must be Arjun" I thought to myself and turned back to the direction I was facing but to my surprise the girl was nowhere to be seen. I quickly ran outside and checked in all the directions but I couldn't spot her. Where could she disappear? Although I was distracted for split of a second, there was no sign of her.
