The engine’s roar quieted down as Jace turned off the ignition. He got out of the car

and came running to the other side. I love seeing his shaggy blond hair fly through the wind.

He came to my door and opened it for me. I couldn’t help but giggle when he held out his

hand for me to help me out.

“ What? ” Jace asked.

“ Oh, nothing “ I replied.

“ What are you laughing about, Alice? “

“ Oh, just your properness enlightened me. “

Jace couldn’t help but snicker a little to my response. He reached out for me, and his

fingers fit perfectly in between mine. We started to walk to our favorite place in these woods

near the border of our town. I love the smell of pine that always hits me when I step out here,

and the fresh, untouched by human’s contaminants, air that flows through my body. And the

beautiful sights I see all around me, the trees with its long branches, the creek with its

beautiful pale green color, all undamaged by people and their tools of destruction. The

beautiful sound of rushing waters. I love the feel of the cool wind against my skin.

As we walked through the wood, the daylight kept diminishing into darkness. Just

before the sun had disappeared, we heard a loud gunshot. I screamed as Jace pushed me to

the ground, covering me with his body.

“ Alice, are you ok?! “ Jace asked in a frantic manner.

“ Yeah, I’m fine, Are you? “

“ Yeah. Was that a gunshot? “

“ I think so. Jace, we should check it out. These aren’t hunting grounds. There has to

be a big reason why that gunshot went off. “

“ No Alice, I’m getting you out of here. “

“ What if someone is hurt? “

“ What if its a masked murderer? “

“ I’m going to see if everything is ok. “ I replied, as I got up and headed toward the

direction the sound of the gunshot came from.

“ Wait, you’re not going alone. I’m coming. “ He reluctantly answered.

As I walked toward the noise, I could hear unenthusiastic footsteps behind me. We

kept getting closer and closer to where the gunshot came from. With every footstep I took, my heart raced faster and faster. It felt like it was going to beat out of my chest. When we got to

the area where the gunshot came from, Jace pulled me behind a huge tree trunk. I was about

to say something till I saw the serious and scared look in his eyes. He was not even looking at

me, he was looking toward an open area right in front of us. As I turned around to see what he

was looking at, what I saw in the middle of that field terrified me. I could feel my spine chill
