CHOI BEOMGYU
Samuel and I stop talking when a pair of bickering students make their way toward us. The closer they get, the more I start to hear their heated conversation.
"...running way from my past! I'm avoiding awkward interactions," Yujin tells Taehyun. I look around and am thankful that most of the students are still lining up for food and don't hear them.
He shrugs. "Well that sounds awfully similar to me. I swear you're going to completely change the angle of which your head is placed if for the whole frickin school year you are turned away from him." They arrive and sit at our table. Taehyun greets us with a nod.
"What am I supposed to do? 'Hey Hyeongjun let's completely forget about my extremely embarrassing past and become besties.'" she says mockingly.
"You said you were over him."
Taehyun throws his head up in annoyance. "And you're missing my point," he faces her. "Your goal shouldn't be to forget about what happened but to accept that it happened and MATURELY move on from it," he sighs. He picks up his chopsticks and starts stuffing food in his mouth. She looks down at her own food. "Sure. Piece of cake Taehyun."
He smiles fakely and pats her back. "Exactly."
Yujin only rolls her eyes and starts eating as well. She catches our curious expressions and apologizes.
"Sorry for that. It's just Hyeongjun," she says. The now familiar heated feeling starts to flood through my system.
"The guy from yesterday?" Samuel asks. She nods and explains their history in such a casual manner you'd think she's over it.
Samuel suddenly motions behind her with his chin. "Heads up."
"Why does he always come up from behind?" she mumbles. I watch as he nears our table but doesn't stop and ends up passing by completely. I hide my smile of relief and enjoy my food.
MIN YUJIN
"This project will be done is pairs," the class starts getting noisy as everyone starts picking their partners. The teacher raises his hand, asking for silence. "And I will be picking your partners." A series of groans sound throughout the classroom. The teacher ignores this and begins reading his already ready list of pairs.
I turn over to Taehyun fearfully. "Taehyun what's the probability of him being my partner?" I whisper.
He looks up. "Hmmm...1/39? That's kind of an easy question you know. You could probably figure it out yourself."
I sigh and give him a hopeless expression. "It was rhetorical. You're smart, but still dense you know."
He laughs out loud. "Like you aren't."
I give up on arguing and turn back to the teacher. He puts the paper down. "Okay you can go to your partners now."
Taehyun stands up and walks over to someone at the back and I frown. Did he already read them all?
"Hey Yujin, can I sit here?" I stare at the boy and blink a good amount before asking.
"Why?"
He smiles, clearly confused. "Uhm...we're partners?"
I turn and look for Taehyun who has a very bright and meaningful smile. And not in a supportive manner. I glare back and Hyeongjun clears his throat.
"So...can I?"
I sigh in defeat and nod. "Let's just get this over with."
Throughout our discussion he stays polite and sweet and this somehow makes me more uncomfortable. No way he just...forgot.
