Sam smiled to him innocently.

He got up and grabbed her shoulders, making her jump surprised.

"What are you doing here?"

"Ahah, what do you mean?" She asked getting a bit creeped out.

"Did he- Was all of this- Wait ...." He let go of her and grabbed his phone. He saw a new message from Rich that read: "have fun with your date"

He held on to his phone with anger and pressed the call button in the corner of his screen.

"Be right back" He smiled to Sam before leaving for the bathroom area.

He waited...

"Yeah?"

"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!"

"AHAHAHAHAH-" Jay pulled the phone away from his ear while Rich laughed without stopping.

"You done?"

"AHHHHH- yeah sorry"

"Seriously man, what the actual fuck?"

"Look, she wanted to hang out, you liked her... I don't see a problem here"

"She still thinks I'm you!!"

"And? Did you forget that she loves me? You're already guaranteed that she'll date you"

"That is CLEARLY not the ISSUE HERE!!"

Jay breathed in and out repeatedly like an angry dog. A mom walked past him giving him a weird look while covering her child's ears. He sighed and calmed down.

"You told me that last time was the last time. I don't like pretending to be you and lying to that innocent girl!"

"I know, I know. But I'm going to be really honest here okay? Are you listening to me?"

"Yeah! Yeah! Just say it!"

"If you have any interest in her, then keep pretending to be me. Just at least pretend your name is Rich. If you tell her you're not me she will be so embarrassed and heartbroken... I'm telling you, she will hate you for a long loooooong looooooooooooo-"

"I get it!"

".... Time."

"Ugh I hate everything about this..."

"Okay, I'm assuming you are going to do the right thing and go back to your beautiful desperate date. Have fun!"

"I hate you-" Rich hung up before Jay could even finish his sentence. He groaned a bit for himself before heading back to where he was before.

He looked at the bench where Sam was sitting all alone holding the rose that he bought. He sighed and tried convincing himself that it was fine, what he was doing wasn't that bad...

But either he believed it or not didn't matter, he knew he was going to have a long talk with Rich after this mess.

He came closer to her and put on a happy face.

"Heeeyyy...."

She looked up.

"I'm sorry... If this was too much we can cancel..."

"No, please, don't worry. Let's just go buy the tickets and all, get this over with"

He noticed her sad expression.

"I-I mean, get done with this awkward mood! You get it right? I didn't mean get done with- ugh let's just go" He face palmed himself and headed inside with Sam following him quietly.

They entered the line to buy tickets. Jay looked at the screen above them showing the movies playing while Sam looked around.

"So, what movie do you wanna watch?"

"Me?" Sam turned to him quickly with a small smile on her face.

"You are the one I'm buying tickets for so..." Jay chuckled.

Her smile dropped.

"Oh..." She looked to the floor avoiding eye contact. "I can pay for my ticket don't worry."

"What? No, that's not what I meant... It was a joke..."

Both didn't speak and looked away from each other while the silence made the situation even more awkward. They were both clearly uncomfortable and lost in what to do. Jay knew he had to do something to lift the mood up but he was also afraid of saying something that might hurt her again. And Sam, poor Sam was already self-doubting and blaming herself for everything.

Not long after, a good 5 minutes that felt like 10 hours for both of them, they got to the front.

"Hello, what can I do for you?" The lady in front of them asked. Sam didn't look up.

Jay gulped. Not knowing what she wanted to watch he could only guess what she would enjoy watching. And the movies that would start soon were all equally bad in his opinion. He could choose between a teen romance, a kid's animated movie or a thriller about life and death. He could guess by the mood that watching a philosophical movie that might cause existental crisis wasn't the best idea and after talking to Sam, or rather hearing her talk, in the last date he just knew she would absolutely love the cheesy romance story that would start in 10 minutes.

He sighed.

"Two tickets for When the lovebirds leave the nest please?" He cringed just saying the name. But he noticed Sam looking up excitedly, making him regret a bit less his decision.

"Awww, okay, let me get you lovebirds your tickets" The lady smirked at them while typing on the screen in front of her. Jay was visibly annoyed while Sam just blushed and looked to side smiling.

The second the lady handed them the tickets Jay threw the money on the counter and left taking Sam by the hand. He could hear the lady in the back murmuring "kids these days" while they left which made him even angrier.

They went through security and sat down in a small bench in front of the toilet and food area. He didn't know how he was so pissed but he was, and it pissed him off even more being so angry when he should be having a good time with Sam.

He looked to Sam who was sitting next to him holding her hand embarrassed.

"What's wrong? I didn't hurt you, right?"

"No! Never! I just didn't expect it..." She couldn't stop blushing.

"Either way, sorry... The mood has been kinda weird and it's kinda my fault..."

"Rich please! You didn't do anything! Really!" She turned to the side to face him. He almost jumped from the sudden movement. Her face was filled with emotion, almost looking offended by what Jay had said.

"Wow, it's fine... You don't have to huh, defend me."

"Stop!" She pouted while looking at Jay very intensely, giving a weird mom vibe. "You always blame yourself, even when you didn't do anything wrong! You have to work on your self-esteem, I don't like seeing you so...so... Guilty? You know what I mean right?"

"Yeah ..."

The tone in her voice was very motherly. An outsider could hear those same words and assume she was talking about her precious little fragile baby. Her overprotective side was guaranteed to be one of the causes for Rich's cocky and selfish personality. It was honestly impossible for Jay to understand how this girl viewed such an asshole as almost a god, a perfect human that can't do wrong.

"Anyways..." He looked around. His eyes quickly noticed the popcorn machines. "Popcorn! Want some?"

"That would be great! I'll buy them for us." She got up but Jay grabbed her hand stopping her and getting up too.

"Don't worry about that, I'll pay"

"No! Really! You already bought the tickets." Sam smiled. A very forced polite smile. At this point it would be cruel to not let her buy the god damn popcorn.

He sighed and let her go.
