Makenna sat in the Meerak tree, her foot dangling just out of reach of some wild greken. Vicious creatures with horns along their silver fur covered back, and holes on the side of their head where ears should have been. These creatures were blind, but that didn't stop them from finding their prey. It was easier when the prey coaxed them into the chase. They lived for that thrill. It was easy for them to lock onto the sound of footsteps and hushed whispers.
Makenna always had a taste for danger, it was the one way she felt alive and free. She risked her life with anything she could and always escaped in the last second. Though now, as she sat in the tree, she realized it might be a bit difficult this time around. She ran her hand through her dark black hair with a sigh. Maybe antagonizing one of the more territorial beasts on this planet hadn't been the best idea, or even the funniest. Still Makenna could feel her heart beating rapidly with excitement as she watched the beast jump in an attempt to reach her.
She quickly climbed up the tree in hopes the beast would lose interest in her, or something else would distract it so she could make her daring escape. As if listening in on her thoughts a loud horn blew and a crew of men came barreling in on their Valmeir. Horses like creatures with one eye and scales instead of fur.. The Greken cowered backwards before turning around and running towards the shadowed mountains. Makenna let out a huff and hopped down from the tree onto the soft grass below. A few of the men were glaring at her, and some avoided her eyes. She was used to being ignored and belittled. It was how her people had treated her since the day she was born. A man with silver hair and golden tattoos along his cheeks hopped off his Valmeir.
"Makenna when will you stop putting yourself in such dangerous situations?" The man asked, his voice deep and husky.
"When it stops being fun General Stone." Makenna shrugged with a devious smile.
"What would your family think if they knew you were doing this kind of stuff?" Stone asked his face fixed in a hard scowl.
"They would probably laugh and say something along the lines of 'Good for her, if we're lucky one of those beasts will kill her.' I always get away anyway, so I don't think it's such a big deal."
"You know of the prophecy, so you know it's a big deal. If you die we could fall into chaos."
"If I live you can fall into chaos! Take a good long look at me and tell me you honestly believe I'm the one who will bring good to this godforsaken planet. Come on Orion, we need to look at the facts." Makenna spat.
"While I'm wearing this uniform it is General Stone to you. Makenna I've known you since I was eight. My mother and I were having tea with yours when she went into labor, so believe me when I say you're not as bad as you think you are. I've seen you do so many good things and never ask for recognition." General Stone sighed.
Makenna let out a heavy sigh, she knew arguing with Orion was pointless. He was as hard headed as the Riffles. She tilted her head back and looked at the sun above. "Well as lovely as this conversation has been I must get home and cook. If I don't I'll be locked out."
Makenna gave Orion a quick salute before running off towards the town. She hated talking about that stupid prophecy. It always frustrated her whenever Orion would bring it up, which was every time they bumped into each other. Granted they always bumped into each other whenever she was causing trouble. He thought reminding her of it would help straighten her out, but it did the opposite. Every time anyone brought it up she felt like being reckless.
She came up on her small village and came to an abrupt halt. She hated this place, seeing it never brought her joy. Everyone here hated her, and always whispered about her. 'She's the bad one.' they would say or 'We should have gotten rid of her while we had the chance.' They always made sure she could hear them, and with every word her heart hurt.
With hesitation she made her way along the streets until she came to her small beat down home. It was a simple grey cubed structure with a single story. There were a few holes in the structure, but thanks to the location of the village it never got cold. Her father didn't see any point in patching it up, believing it brought them closer to nature. As soon as she arrived at the metal door it slid open with such force Makenna thought it would fall off its track. Her father glared at her before grabbing her arm and pulling her inside.
"Why is it when I tell you to be home by a certain time you always come back late?" Her father growled not letting her go as he spoke.
"I was being held hostage by a Greken father, or I would have been home sooner." Makenna muttered.
"I have had enough of your excuses Makenna, and I sure as hell have had enough of you. You will be going to bed without food, and in the morning you're getting sent to Velicaria."
"Father you can't send me away just like that!" Makenna shouted.
"I can do what I please. It would be better for the family and this village if you were gone."
Makenna held the tears back as she tore her arm from her fathers. She knew her family didn't like her much, but hearing they wanted to get rid of her tore her in half. Without another word Makenna ran out of her house without any sense of where she was going.
