"Tell me" my gaze sways between Wen Ning and Wei Ying. Whilst Wei encourages Wen Ning to talk, he on the other hand hesitates a bit.
"Hanguang-Jun, last night I met Master Wei and informed him of some discrepancies in the Salt Lake City" he takes a pause and looks at Wei "Master Wei asked me to report this matter to you".
"What kind of discrepancies?" I enquire and he pales further "Resentful energies, I can sense some strong ones".
Hm.
"Hanguang-Jun, I seek your permission to investigate the matter. No one has much clue about this but I wish to find out more and once I have gathered enough evidences, I shall brief you about it".
I acknowledge his concerns and pass him the Jade token "Here. This will ensure your safe entry and exit" he takes them and before he leaves, I have a final piece of advice for him "Be careful" both of them are taken aback. Wen Ning recovers quickly from the shock and with a bow he leaves.
Taking my hand in his, Wei pulls me towards him and places his chin on my shoulder "You care for Wen Ning" he whispers and I look at the man leaning on me and kiss his forehead "I care about you. You care about Wen Ning. I know if something were to happen to him, you would be devastated and I can't have that". His ears redden "Lan Zhan" with a sweet smile he kisses my lips.
Hand in hand we walk back to Jingshi when we hear a small meek voice call Wei's name. Our steps halt and as we turn, we both were surprised to see Young Master Jin Ling waiting for us behind the canopies of trees by the entrance of Jingshi.
"Jin Ling, what are you doing here?" Wei enquires. Jin Ling raises his eyes to meet mine and I knew he was seeking my permission.
"Lan Zhan?" Wei turns those beautiful eyes on me "can he enter Jingshi?". I was surprised that Wei even had to seek my permission. So with the truth in my words, even ignoring the presence of another person, I cup Wei's face "this is as much as your house as it is mine and together, it's our home". Without another word I leave them there and walk in only to be greeted by WuJi. Picking WuJi I hear them enter and Jin Ling trudges carefully to where I was standing. His eyes were on the rabbits and even as minutes passed by he did not speak a word.
Concerned gaze of Wei seeks mine. I knew he was worried.
"Brat" he calls out "don't tell me you're here at this hour of night to admire the rabbits!" at that Jin Ling's head snaps up and he retorts "Oh yeah! You think I am here to look at your old face then?" saying that his eyes immediately swing to mine. He was scared that I would punish him and use the muting spell.
I for some reason found this to be hilarious so I continued to ignore them and sit on the patio. Summoning Wangji, I play a song that I knew would calm Jin Ling.
"Who are you calling old? Jiang Cheng has really spoilt you!" Wei huffs and I knew this was all an act.
"Well he's old too" Jin Ling murmurs and takes a seat below the Peonies Tree and the corner of Wei's lips lift up to smile. Taking a seat next to him Wei leans against the bark of the tree and waits patiently for Jin Ling to talk.
My fingers glide seamlessly against the chords of Wangji and maybe the song today was bitter sweet. The reason maybe that finally they could open up their hearts or maybe Wangji was feeling a bit melancholic too .
"Did you like my father?" Jin Ling questions out of the blue and Wei's body freezes up. Not a question I was expecting but nonetheless it was his moment to answer and he does not disappoint me.
