Hannah finally caught up to Ava at the end of the street. Her friend was sitting on a park bench, and looking determainedly at the photo.
" Is there anything on the back?" Hannah asked, bringing Ava out of her state.
" Oh!" She said surprised. " I hadn't thought of that yet. Thanks Hannah!" She flipped over the photo, and indeed, there was faint writing on the back. She squinted, and read the words out loud: "To whomever may find this locket and photo, treasure it with your heart. You can never find me, but beware the men that seek you."
" What does that mean?" Ava asked, looking up at Hannah. Her friend shrugged. " But I might have a suggestion," She said. " What is that?" Ava asked. Hannah sat down next to Ava, and patted her friend's knee. " You see, fellow friend," She began. " In order to have a lead on this mystery, we need to find out who this locket belongs to."
Ava smiled, and the frowned, looking downcast. " You're right, but where would we find out who this belongs to?"
Hannah smiled and stood up. " The library's always open, right?" She offered Ava her hand. Ava reached up and grabbed it. " Okay, smartie-pants. Lead the way."
The walk to the library was only a few blocks. When Ava and Hannah arrived, they headed straight for the Librarians desk.
" Hi, Mrs. Gerber," Ava said politely. The Librarian with gray hair and glasses looked up from her desk. " Oh, hello, Ava." She said sweetly. " And who is your friend?" She looked at Hannah. " This is Hannah, my best friend," Ava explained. " I see," Mrs. Gerber nodded. " And what brings you two girls here today? In need of a new book, or to use the computer for homework? You know the-"
" Sorry, Mrs.Gerber," Ava cut her off. " We were wondering if you know, or knew any of the girls in this photo." She held out the photo for Mrs. Gerber to inspect.
The Librarian's eyes widened, and she whispered frantically, " Jennie!"
Ava leaned forward. " Jennie who?" She asked.
Mrs. Gerber slowly looked up at the girls, eyes brimming with tears. " Jennie. Jennie Henson. She was one of my best childhood friends. We had a fight with two of our other friends. Jennie just disappeared not too long after."
Hannah held up a hand. " Woah. So maybe this Jennie person can help us. Mrs. Gerber, do you think that Jennie may own the locket?"
Mrs.Gerber dabbed a hankerchief at her eyes and then shook her head. " I-I."
Ava pulled out a little pocket notebook, scribbled some stuff down, and then looked directly at the librarian. " Mrs. Gerber, do you have Jennie's phone number? We need to call her."
