CHAPTER 7 - OBLIGATION

The next morning I get up to the hustle and bustle of the servants running.

I throw on my grey sweatpants and a black tank top finally putting my hair in a loose braid.

I make my way down to the kitchen to the amazing smell of freshly baked strawberry puff pastry.

"Finally! The monster is awake!!" Noah says dramatically.

"Everyone, quickly take cover with your loved ones!" Ohadh says while ducking under the kitchen counter with his plate of puffs.

I ignore them as I take a seat on my chair while Marie serves me the puff pastries.

I devour the puffs in record speed and grab some more on my way out.

"Wait, don't you want to know what decision they'll come to, about yesterday?!" Noah stops me.

"Okay, I'm listening."

"Could you breath any louder?!"

"Stop stepping on my toe."

"Shut it before I punch your throat."

"Ughhh...why did I agree to helping you three."

"Shut up!!" The three of us say in unison.

Liam was gifted the power of cloaking one's presence to everyone's surprise and to our utter convenience today.

The council room was the second largest room after the throne room. It had a large wooden table in the middle with eleven stone chairs around it. The Alpha sat at the head of the table. The entire room had a dark and vintage interior with a fire place.

The sun had just begin to lighten up the room.

We lived in the north, so while the sun did not grant us its warmth it would rather illuminate our surroundings.

"I believe, I don't need to repeat the events which led to the gathering of this council." I hear the Alpha say with one hand on his chin and the other resting on the table.

"While I do detest the manner in which it was addressed to us, if there is any truth to what David claims, then we are indeed in trouble."

I see the council members nodding.

The council consisted of the most trusted wolves in the pack. The Alpha and the Luna always sat at the head of the table. The Beta to the Alpha's right side and the Gamma to the left of the Luna.

The Seven warriors were then seated along the table on either side of it.

"I must remind you all, that the pack is our first and only priority." The Alpha says while looking at everyone before he stops at Aunt Zeela.

I feel my heart beating in my chest, why do I have a bad feeling about this.

"Now, we can not entirely trust the words of someone who is not from our kind." the Alpha seems to be choosing his words cautiously.

The air in the council room has taken a tense turn with no one fully knowing where the Alpha was taking this.

"I have chosen one of our own to accompany the Denners in their ventures."

The room is silent. The only thing I can hear is the fire burning and Noah breathing.

"And who do u suggest Alpha?" Beta Eva inquires.

"Lylah." the Alpha answers while looking at Aunt Zeela.

Wait what??!!!

Surely they are talking about another Lylah in this pack that I have not yet met.

"NO" I hear Aunt Zeela say with absolution in her voice and eyes with a stiff posture.

Yup its me.

I see Uncle Jonah put his hand on his mate in an attempt to calm her down.

Everyone present there knew the meaning of defying the Alpha. Especially in the Night crawler's pack. We were called the strongest pack for a reason.

I see my Aunt calm down from the touch of her mate but her anger still remains in her eyes.

"Surely we can find someone better suited for this task than Lylah." Uncle Jonah steps in to divert the attention off my Aunt's glare.

I don't think my Aunt even registered that she was defying the Alpha. She has always been very protective of me ever since I can remember.

"Lylah is the best training wolf we have here, do you deny it?" the Alpha looks at Uncle Jonah and then at Aunt Zeela.

At this point I don't know whether to feel pride or fear.

"She is still not experienced enough to go into a foreign territory and not nearly as strong. She still struggles with her powers, not to mention her clumsiness." Aunt Zeela says with what I assume to be....desperation?

Ouch, so much for her confidence in me.

Why is she so against this? I am more than capable of handling myself in unknown territories.

"Tell me Zeela, what was your age when you volunteered for the War?"

"The circumstances were different and you know it."

"Your pack needed you and you volunteered, am I wrong?"

Aunt Zeela slams the table as I see the Beta and Gamma take protective stances in front of the Alpha and the Luna.

"I will not send my daughter to the Denners!"

My heart swells to hear my Aunt call me her own daughter but at the same time it fears for her life.

"I am not sending her as bait, I am sending her as the most able representative of our kind." the Alpha says in his calmest voice which held a promised threat.

"I am more capable than her. Let me go instead." Aunt Zeela says.

"I need you here as I need the others, doing what they do best and protect our territories."

"Why don't you send Ohadh or Noah. To my understanding they are equally capable, No?" Aunt Zeela says tauntingly.

The Alpha growls as he rubs his forehead, closes his eyes and takes a deep infuriating breath.

"I am sorry Zeela but I've already sent word. They will be expecting her there."

He looks at the Luna before he continues "If it puts your mind at ease, I can send both my Sons to accompany her."

"So it was never a discussion to begin with." Aunt Zeela scoffs.

The Alpha looks at her with rage in his eyes.

"That would be very reassuring and kind of you Alpha." Uncle Jonah cuts in and says while bowing his head in submission.

I see him tighten his grip on Aunt Zeela's hand.

"It's decided then."
