District 12
A scream erupted from inside the house as it echoed all throughout the street. Kairi jumped up and ran over to his sisters room to see her screaming and crying. He went up to her and hugged her as he stroked her head trying to comfort her.
"It's okay,"Kairi said softly,"You're just dreaming. You're dreaming."
"It was scary,"His sister muttered out.
"I know,"Kairi said rocking back and forth,"I know what it's like."
"It's your first year Maiya, your name's not even gonna be in there once,"He whispered,"They're not gonna pick you. Try to go to sleep."
"I can't,"Maiya whimpered.
"Just try,"Kairi said softly,"Just try."
Maiya lifted her head leaned in towards his ear. She whispered something, while Kairi just nodded and watched as she layed back down. He tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and sung a lullaby.
"Deep in the meadow,"Kairi sung,"under the willow."
"Hop in the grass,"Maiya sang along with him causing a smile to form on his face,"a soft green pillow."
"You remember that song?"Kairi asked as Maiya nodded,"Okay, you finish it. I got to go."
"Where?"Maiya asked curiously.
"I just gotta go."Kairi said while kissing the top of her forehead,"I'll be back. I love you."
Kairi walked downstairs and grabbed his jacket that was hanging on a hook in-front of the door. He turned his head to see a cat hiss at him.
"I'll still cook you,"He said zipping up the jacket and walked out the door.
Kairi jogged down the dirt filled road to get to his destination. He seen an older lady cary pails of water towards her house. A woman watched out her window as she licked her lips. Little boys were playing in mud with sticks. Kairi turned his head around and seen all the men with buckets in their hand walking together towards the mine.
Kairi kept jogging until he reached outside of the zone. He looked around to make sure no one was watching him, then slid through the fence. The only thing on the other side of the fence was the woods, where Kairi loved to go to.
He made his way deeper into the woods and stopped at a log. Kairi knelt down and pushed all the leaves out of the way to reveal a bow. He looked up and made his way to the tree six feet from him and dug his hand inside the hole of it to grab a pack of arrows.
Kairi put the arrows over his shoulder and jogged deeper into the woods, being careful not to make too much noise. He eventually stopped behind a tree and noticed a deer eating the little to no grass on the ground. Kairi lifted his bow and pulled back on the string taking in a deep breath. The deer looked up and ran away, causing Kairi to let out a huge sigh.
He picked up leaves from the ground and crumbled them in his hand to see which way the wind was blowing. He followed its direction and seen the deer behind a huge boulder. He looked down trying to find a rock, and shot it at the boulder causing the deer to pop out. It didn't see Kairi and stood out in the open.
Kairi went up a little closer and got ready for a shot. The deer ran as soon as it heard an overly loud voice popped up from behind it.
"What are you gonna do with that when you kill it?"The voice said getting closer. Kairi turned his head, then turned back to see the deer running as he shot the arrow.
