AMBER

I had just come out of class before I received a phone call. It was my mom....

She sounded sad, as though she was crying. I don't blame her if she was.

Life has been a little rough for the past few weeks. My dad decided to file a divorce out of nowhere and that threw my mom off.

Last night he took all his things and left and told us that we could stay until we found ourselves a place. I guess he felt bad to an extent but what he was doing, for whatever reason, was wrong.

"Amber my baby, please come ho...home" mom said and I could barely hear her.

I immediately felt a sharp pain in my chest.

Hearing my mother through the phone struggling to even finish her words made me sad.

She was broken, and I didn't know how to help her.

"I'm on my way" I said fighting the tears in my eyes that wanted to come out.

"Everything is gonna be okay mom, I promise" I added as I headed towards the exit doors of the school building.

"Okay" she said softly through the phone before the call cut off.

I checked my phone to make sure it didn't die on me considering how low my battery was.

Realizing that it was still on, I shrugged it off and assumed that her airtime must have finished.

"Everything okay" a sweet gentle voice let out from behind me.

I turned around and I was met face to face with my older sister Kim.

She looked drained.

"Yeah, umm, mom is asking for us" I said feeling awkward.

The school parking lot was filled with students chatting by their cars and some chasing each other around.

I'm not exactly the popular girl around here. And honestly some people only speak to me because I'm related to the in girl of this school.

And who else other than my older sister Kim.

"Oh umm, you go ahead, I've got detention, I'll just catch a ride with Cassie" she said as she started searching in her little purse.

"Take the keys to the car, and don't tell mom that I got in trouble" she added as she handed her car keys to me.

"Okay" I said as I took her car keys holding them firmly so they wouldn't drop.

Honestly speaking, detention is not her thing. She is just doing it for this boy, Trent, who is in the football team. Most popular guy in the school actually.

His a jerk in my opinion and I honestly don't see what she sees in him.

"Hey Kim, you coming" a group of girls called out.

That was my que to leave before I get bullied by a bunch of girls who think they can actually dress.

To be honest with you, being popular and always going out to be 'cool' is not worth it.

You always focus on what people think of you, and shouldn't it be you caring about what you think of yourself?.....

Anyways...

In a wealthy family like mine, you would expect both of us to be popular.

But I'm a complete opposite of my sister. She parties and I stay in.

She barely even studies and I'm into my books. She likes shopping and I like saving....investing.

And boys? I can't even count how many boys she has brought home.
