We all know that there are going to be some smart asses who will take any chance they get to argue or cause trouble. And when they find out that the "professors" at Hogwarts don't actually have a degree and you can become a Hogwarts professor, relatively easily. For example Hagrid was expelled.
And this kid... Jake refuses to call them professor. He has lost many, many, many house points because of this, as well as earning many detentions. And Jake is like... "Why should I call you professor? Do you have a degree?... That's what I thought." And he goes on and on, making multiple valid points (he's a ravenclaw) about how the Hogwarts professors aren't actually professors, they are just teachers so they should be called Mr. Or Ms. Or Mrs. Not professor and after that rant about it a few other ravenclaw muggle-borns are like "oh my God. He's right!" Then they stop calling them professors, too.
