Chapter Ten

   In the Outlands, the night is nothing but peaceful, calm, and quiet. However, inside a den, laying down close to the entrance, staring at the twinkling stars with eyes filled with sorrow and worry, a female jackal dazed by the concern for her two months missing pup. Ever since those months ago, her pup vanished without a trace. At first, she thought he just wandered somewhere like he always do. However, he didn’t came back the day after and the day next.

   Dreaded with worry, she informed her husband about this. Hearing this, her mate, Goigoi, didn’t hesitated and started searching along with four of their eldest children. For a few days, their actions didn’t go unnoticed as during their search, one of them came across the Outland’s new ruler, Jasiri. Because of being who they are and what they do, believing their words is a lot harder. That is…. for others.

    Thankfully, Jasiri and her sister, Madoa, are keen listeners and can detect the difference between a truth and a lie. As they tell them, Reirei went to a breakdown and cried brokenheartedly, desperate in finding her pup. Jasiri saw that she is telling the truth, Reirei never acts in desperations when tricking animals. Soon, many helped out in the search but some like Janja still believes this is all a trick.

   This soon gone for a week until Vitani’s Lion Guard notice the sudden commotion while patrolling the Outlands. After getting some words, they escorted Jasiri and Reirei to Priderock to explain what is happening. Surprisingly, the royal family lend them a paw in this situation then asked the whole Pride Lands to help. Some are skeptical about it didn’t believed her story which made Reirei reflect to the ways she and her family had done. To her surprise, many are willing to help her as she heard something from them that she never expected to hear. Before the pup’s disappearance, he had been secretly and actually….helping these Pride Landers, even though he only has paws.

   They have said so many things about him and what he did for them but she didn’t hear them as she processed what they had said. He is still a pup and he is already helping ever animal in The Pride Lands.

   Reirei looked at the night sky with a genuine, proud smile. She couldn’t believe her little boy is a helper in The Pride Lands. Even if his actions goes against the jackal ways, she is still proud of what her son achieved. Actually proud.

   However, her smile turned into a frown as she remembered how much have passed. The months has passed and there is still no news, not to mention that both Jasiri and her hyena partner, who’s none other than Janja, left last month to look for help.

   “You okay, mom?”

   Reirei looked behind her and sighed lowly, recognizing one of her pups as the one before her is her youngest daughter, Kajina. The female pup got her mother’s deceitfulness and is very close to her brothers. But, she is much more closer to one, Dogo. Everyday, they would always had a rivalry with each other, though it brought them closer than apart. That is, until he disappeared. Due to his disappearance, the little pup became depressed and barely talks to anyone other than her mother. It broke her when she heard the news, she had a stronger connection with her brother and it pains Reirei to see her like that.


   “I’m fine, Kajina,” Reirei quietly answered.


   “Still thinking about him, are you?” Kajina questioned, approaching her mother with a downy expression. Reirei couldn’t help but feel sorry for her daughter, it aches her more that Kajina stayed in the den like her rather than going outside unless Reirei said so.

   “How could I not,” the grown up said mournfully and looked back at the stars, Kajina nodded sadly as she laid down beside her mother as she continues. “I loved your brother as much as the rest of you…”

   Reirei turned to her daughter’s teal eyes with a soft voice. “Kajina…you are the first one to hear this and the first one to know,”
