Marinette POV

"Dad! Don't leave me. I'll be all alone!" I scream, panicking.

"Don't worry, sweetie. Everything will be just fine." He tries calming me, but fails.

"Mom's gone, and soon maybe you'll be too... What will happen to me?" I sob.

His tired eyes meet mine. "You're a strong women, Marinette. I know you can make your way through this. Have a new start, and live your life. That's all mom and I want."

His voice begins to quiet down. "Just live for love. And always remember: we'll always be in your heart."

Then his eyes start to flicker. "Dad, please." I cry. "I-i love you."

His eyes begin to close. "I love you too, Marinette."

Then all the machines begin to beep, and his heart rate decreases rapidly.

I sink to my knees and let my tears flow.

I loved you dad. With all my heart. I hope you can join mom now. But I'll never forget you.

***

My eyes flutter open, trying to forget about this nightmare once again.

I sigh, looking trough the window.

"How much longer until we're there?" I ask one of the 'mothers' of the orphanage.

"I think 15 minutes." She replies, keeping her eyes on the road. I nod and continue looking outside.

I still can't believe it. Someone adopted me. Her name is Emilie, I think.

I was just doing my usual chores, when I was asked to come to the main office.

You only get asked to go there when you did something really bad, or you're being adopted.

I didn't expect the second one, because I'm quite old, at the moment 16, and nobody wants to adopt someone with that age.

But surprisingly I got the news that I was in fact adopted. And now I'm here, in the car, on my way to my new home.

Luckily it wasn't that hard to say goodbye to my old residence, because I didn't really connect with most of the people there.

I just really wanted to get adopted or become 18, and leave that sh*thole.

I just can't believe it's finally happening!

The huge mansion catches my eye at instant, and my breath hitches.

How did I get this lucky?

The car comes to a stop, and with the help from 'the mother', we carry my stuff to the front door.

She rings the doorbell and I wait nervously.

Then the door opens, and my eyes meet two bright green ones.
