Just Another Day

Monday morning.

5:30am

Wake up.

Get dressed.

Leave for work.

No time for food, because I have no food.

My crappy one room apartment that doesn't even lock properly, it's a good thing I have nothing of any value.

Walk out the door, down the street and into the local convenience store.

"Morning Mr K, how you doin'?"

"God morning sweetheart, I'm good thank you, how are you?"

"I'm good thanks, what needs doing today?"

The usual morning chitchat quickly became monotonous between me and Mr K. He was a lonely old man, his wife had passed away a few years before, yet he still ran the shop they had started all those years before. He understood my situation and was always looking after me, letting me have any produce that was about to go bad.

My life was far from perfect but at least it was a life. I saved every penny I could hoping one day I could move out of this crime ridden town, but to be honest, that wasn't many pennies.

I fulfilled my shift as usual, grabbed my bags and left. Mr K hated that I walked home alone, especially so late, but every night I told him it wasn't that far and that I'd be fine.

I got home, barely through the door when everything went dark...
