High up. Secured. You'd never expect anything wrong to happen right? William couldn't be any more wrong...
Casually he carries his work flyers to his office, surrounded by the sound of tapping keyboards and computer mouses. "Working with a boss who makes millions is wonderful" he thought to himself, "a good salary, the boss is understanding, great coworkers; I'm living the dream" But was this day really a dream? Or was it just the beginning of.... a nightmare?
He continues to walk with his flyers and folders in his hands unaware of his phone ringing in his pocket. Once he reached his office he checked his phone. It was his boss. He called back to hear the words "get here quickly" so he runs up the stairs to reach the two floors above him to where his boss's office is. He ran in a hurry up the stairs; yes he could've used the lift if it wasn't out of order.
As he got to the second set of stairs; he noticed construction outside on the nearest building to his. He took no notice and continued running. Of course, he ignored the lessons that parents tell every child "never run up or down the stairs or you could fall over". He ran and ran and.... slipped. Slamming through the window to his right and holding on to his phone in his right hand and holding on to the ledge of the building with his left being right handed he would have to either switch hands or grab hold with the other hand too; the second option would mean holding on to the ledge covered in shards of sharp glass.
He decided he wanted the best chance of survival he could get this would mean switching his hands and then also using two hands, this will pierce his left hand, leaving his right hand safer and still stronger. He put his phone in his pocket and braced himself for the unbearable pain to follow next. He rapidly switched hands and waited "hang on a little longer, the fire brigade are arriving soon, just hang on" he heard from the floor below him, "ok ok thank you" he replied gasping in fear, hanging from the window on the 14th story of a 17 story building sure is terrifying. He prepared himself and swung his left arm up, "ahhrrgg... ahhhh" he shouted in pain as the shards of glass pierced his fingers and hand. Hanging on tightly he could hear the sirens of the fire trucks approaching "hang on there, we're getting the trampoline for you to jump on" he responded with a painful "ok, but please hurry".
Every moment he attempted to hold tighter or pull himself a little higher to not fall; he would feel the glass cutting and shredding his skin. The blood-stained his arm and dropped to the concrete floor down below. The droplets of blood on the floor alerted the firemen that he's injured "we gotta do this quickly" one of them said. They hurried the huge trampoline directly under William. "Let go and fall onto the trampoline you'll be fine". He had doubts that they would catch him; what if he fell at a bad angle and they miss... splat he would die. If he decided to try to keep holding on the glass would cut more and deeper into his hand and fingers; he would eventually lose his grip and fall either way.
He made his decision. Scared, anxious to let go, he hesitated and doubted his own decision, however, he went with full confidence in his mind and let go of the ledge... he fell through the air, quickly it felt yet it looked so slow, gracefully he fell down. He hits the trampoline and bounces back up a couple of meters. And bounces back; he was fine, putting aside a couple of scars of course. He was able to go home and recover his injuries. For that point he never ran up the stairs; he took a slow step at a time. every time.
