It was raining while I walked down the street. I was getting back from school. People were rushing around me, everyone was in hurry. Bunch of umbrellas in different colors were passing next to me. I wasn't really noticing them. I was deep in my thoughts. I looked on the screen of my phone. There were few missed calls from Anne. I chose to ignore them. I turned into the street where my foster parents lived. I glanced at the houses around. They were all the same, only the paint on them was different. I stopped in front of a brick house. It was big and looked really comfy to the people around. But they didn't know what was happening inside.
It's been already a week since I got into a fight with my foster parents. They wanted me to except their last name when I turn 18. I mean, I just turned 16. I have a lot of time to think about it. It's not like I would do that or anything. My last name was one of three things I have left from my mother. I had no other siblings, neither my foster parents had any children, so I was stuck with them all by myself. I smiled bitterly and looked aside. I sighed deeply and made myself go into that house I should call home.
I slowly opened back door which was leading to the kitchen, hoping that Anne wasn't inside. I stepped in carefully, scared to make any noise. I didn't want to put up with them right now. Great! No one was there. I straightened up and walked into the living room, heading to the stairs.
"Lea? Is that you?" Damn it.
I chose to ignore it and walked a few stairs. Anne came to me, looking exhausted. She had tired look.
"Lea, why aren't you answering when I call you?"
I remained silent.
"Lea..."
"It's Hayley! Why do you even want to talk to me? It seems like you never wanted a child. Neither is Tom!"
"L..."
"No! You know what? I can't wait to turn 18 and walk out of this stupid house and away from this family! If this even is a family. And I'm not going to change my last name. It is one of those things I have left with from my mother! How can you guys be so cruel?"
Anne stood in front of me, tears filling her eyes. I squeezed my teeth and ran upstairs. I walked to my room and slammed the door behind me. I threw my backpack on my bed and turned around. I loved my room. It was the only place I could ran to when I get into a fight with Tom and Anne. I spend 7 years in this room. That's how long I have been going through hell. The walls were painted in red. One of the walls was all in glass. My bed was next to it. It had black covers. Next to the bed was night stand, and next to it there was a full length mirror. There were black carpets on the floor. On the opposite of the bed there were two black doors. One led to the walk-in wardrobe, and the other led to the bathroom. I walked into my wardrobe and took some black skinny jeans, black sweatshirt and put on my black converses. I walked to the mirror.
I must say I looked nice. Black was good on me. It's not like I was Emo or anything. I had brown hair, electric blue eyes, and full red lips. They were always like that. I didn't put anything on them. I was average height for a 17 year old. I was slim and good looking. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't up to myself or something.
I sighed. I lay on my bed and stared at the ceiling for a little while. I bent over my bed and looked for something under it. My finger finally found what I was searching so I pulled it out. It was a small box, where I found a picture of a beautiful woman with a child in her lap. They both had matching red dresses. That was my mother and I. I smiled and got it out of the box. I looked back in the box, where I found a book with leather bindings. It had some kind of belt around it. I realized I have never opened it. I took the belt of and found a little paper. I looked at it more closely and found out it was a message.
'My little Hay,
If you're reading this it means I'm dead. I need you to open this book and find out your destiny. Everything that is written in this book is real and I need you to know this: Hay you are a hunter, a hunter of the paranormal. If you are in any kind of trouble call one of three numbers you'll find on the first page.
Love, Mom.'
I looked at it with disbelief in my eyes. I'm a hunter. I quickly went through the book. Ghosts, demons, vampires... I shut the book, and went downstairs.
I walked into the living room and found my parents on the floor. They lay in a pool of blood. I started screaming and ran to Anne. She wasn't moving, neither was Tom. I dialed 911 and walked outside to find some help. There was no one who could help me, so I just sat on the chair and started crying. They were dead. Where could I go now? I ran upstairs and opened the book. I dialed the first number I found in the book, but I got voicemail.
"Alright, next one", I said hanging up. I dialed next number and after long ringing someone answered.
"Hello?", I called.
"Yes?", I heard male voice on the other side of the line.
"M-My name is Hayley, my parents had just been killed, I called 911 but..."
"O-okay, my name's Dean. Could you just give me your address and we'll come", I heard him say. "Hmm, Sammy, could you take over the wheel?", he said little quieter. "You still there?"
I nodded and then realized he couldn't see me. "Yeah", I said and gave him my address.
"Okay, we are near. We'll be there in five, you just stay calm. Okay?"
"Uh-huh."
I hang up and turned around. Well this is going to be a long day...
