"Hey!" Someone shouted at me. I was about halfway home and drenched from head to toe in rainwater. I turned around to see a boy from my school holding a black umbrella. He started running towards me and I realized he was wearing the male version of my uniform.

He stopped about 2 feet away from me and held the umbrella above both of us. "Why are you out here walking in the rain with no umbrella?" He asked while I was squeezing the rain out of my hair.

"I forgot to bring one this morning and I figured I should just try to get home before it gets any worse." I explained to him. Now that I could actually see him clearly, I noticed he had white-gray hair with black streaks in it that was spiked up in a funny way. It kind of reminded me of the baby crows.

My crows! I hope they are okay with all this rain. My garden is probably flooded now. I need to get home quickly!

"Um. I need to go quickly!" I said to the boy while turning around, only to be stopped by a hand on my shoulder.

"Hey. Why are you leaving all of the sudden. I can walk you home, so you don't get any more drenched than you already are." He explained looking at me curiously. "My name's Bokuto Kotaro." He smiled.

That name sounds familiar.

"I'm Hata Kairi. Thanks for walking me home. I really appreciate it, but can we please go quickly, I have things I need to do." We started walking down the street at a semi-fast pace, both of us under the umbrella.

"Why are you in such a rush." He asked, "If I may ask."

"I need to make sure my garden isn't flooded." I explained while trying to wring out the water in my shirt. "And to make sure my baby crows are okay. They were outside this morning, and I hope they found some place dry."

Bokuto's eyes widened at the news, a smile on his face. "Woah, you have birds? That's so cool."

I smiled back. "Well, they aren't, per se, mine. I found them before leaving for school."

We fell into a nice silence. The sound of the rain drowning out the vroom of the occasional car that passed by. Bokuto made sure to keep the umbrella over the two of us and I couldn't have been more thankful.

"Do you always walk this way?" He asked, looking around as if he was looking for something.

I followed his gaze to find him examining the small park that I used to play on as a little girl. "Yeah, I do."

He scratched the back of his neck and glanced down. "That's weird. I walk this way, too, but much later because of volleyball practice. It was cancelled today though."

He plays volleyball . . . I knew his name sounded familiar, but I couldn't remember where I heard it from.

"You were supposed to play against the missing team, Karasuno, right? Are you disappointed that they didn't show?" I asked a few minutes later.

"Perhaps a little disappointed, yeah, but some of them were my friends, so I'm pretty worried too. Did you know they were called the Flightless Crows?"

Flightless crows . . . I have 14 crows in my garden. Can they fly? If they can't . . . Oh boy.

"No, I did not know that." After I said that, we stopped talking. The rest of the way to my house was spent in silence.

When we were in front of my gate, I thanked him and let myself inside, leaving the protection of the umbrella. I noticed my mom's car was not in the driveway meaning she was at work. I also saw that my garden was flooded, and, to my surprise, 3 crows were playing in the water, 1 was squawking at them, and the other 10 were taking cover from the rain on my porch.

"Well, look at what we have here!" Bokuto saw the baby crows and his eyes got wider, so did his smile. "They are playing in the garden! How many do you have?" He took a few seconds to count them. "You have 14 crows?" He asked curiously.

"Um, yeah. Thanks again for walking me home and letting me use your umbrella!" I quickly left and was just about to walk up the stairs leading to my house when I slipped on the rocks of the wet pathway. "Ahh!" I yelled as all the crows were startled.

"Hata! Are you okay?" Bokuto asked worriedly as he opened up the gate to let him in my garden. He knelt down beside me and gave me the umbrella to hold while he looked at my bloody knee. "This looks bad. Uh, can you stand up?"

I looked at him and then at the crows watching us curiously. I nodded and took his outstretched hand to help myself up. My knee hurt a lot as I walked up my porch with Bokuto at my side. I saw some of the crows shivering and thought that I should let them in, but they would get the floors dirty. I realized the I was dirty myself, covered in water, dirt, and blood so I thought screw it. The floors are going to get dirty no matter what. I took my keys out of my bag and unlocked my door. I made Bokuto leave his umbrella on the porch, and we walked inside.

"Wow. You have a nice home." He spoke. I sat on the ground and knew I probably wouldn't be able to get back up without his help. I slid off my dirty, wet shoes and Bokuto did the same with his. Thankfully, the water did not soak through my shoes to my socks so I could still walk with them on.

"Hey. Help me back up." I told him. "Please." He helped me stand back up and I limped to the kitchen. I grabbed a towel out of one of the cupboards and began to dry myself off the best I could. Before I could offer him a towel, I remembered that he wasn't wet at all because he actually had a brain to bring an umbrella, unlike me.

"Would you like any help in taking care of your knee? I have some experience." Offering, Bokuto's gaze lingered on my bleeding knee.

I nodded. "I'm going to take a shower first. You can watch tv to pass the time or whatever. Just don't touch anything except for the remote and couch. And please don't go wandering into other rooms. I'll be as quick as I can." With that said, I limped to my room and grabbed soft, dry clothes to wear after my shower. In the bathroom, I peeled off my wet, sticky clothes and put them in the hamper. Taking a look at my appearance in the mirror, I saw how messed up my hair was. Talk about birds-nest much. I turned on the shower and stepped in.
