"Late as always Allen." Captain Singh glared at his forensic scientist from across the room. Or, really what was left of the room. The whole house looked as though a tornado had decided to stay a little while. Furniture and books were strewn everywhere and lying in the middle of the room was the reason forensics was called in.
"Sorry Captain, I was at a... doctor's appointment." Barry Allen flashed one of his signature smiles and hurried to set his equipment down. He wasn't actually lying, in fact he had been with a doctor. Specifically he had been with Caitlin and Dr. Wells at S.T.A.R. Labs. Cisco had been there too, but he wasn't technically a doctor. They had been running more tests that day. It had been more than a year since the day lightning had struck the young man, turning him into the Flash. Two months since the "Reverse Flash" had made an appearance and then disappeared again. Two months since he had confessed his unrequited love to Iris. And well... things were surprisingly... good. He hadn't stopped searching for the man in the yellow suit, but he knew he needed time to prepare for when their paths crossed again. So he was taking his time, he was training, and trying to get faster. As for Iris, it was hard, but he was working towards forgetting. He knew she was happy with Eddie and her happiness meant everything to him. He was helping people and even managing to live a relatively normal life as just plain old Barry Allen. Now though he had to focus on the job at hand. He knelt down next down to the body. The man was on his back, eyes closed. Honestly if he hadn't been so pale, Barry might have thought he was sleeping. He had brown hair, looked about in his early 50s, and was dressed as if about to go out. After a few minutes of analyzing the body, the scientist sat back.
"Well? What happened?" Detective Joe West asked, kneeling next to his adopted son. "Um, the thing is, I don't really know." the younger man stated clearly surprised to hear those words come out of his mouth.
"You don't know?! What kind of answer is that?" Singh scowled down at Barry.
Barry looked up, trying the annoyance in his voice, "It means exactly what I said, I don't know. I mean, the house is trashed. You'd think that it might have been a burglary and our victim happened to be here when it happened and was killed. But then, there should blood or at least bruises on the man. Maybe it was a planned murder, which couldn't explain it either, because if it was, the murderer was either an angry person or there was a struggle, judging by the state of the house. Both options are out of the question, obviously, because there are no marks on this man. The only thing I can come up with at this point, is that his heart just stopped, but I can't tell for sure until an autopsy is performed"
"Maybe it was poison or a heart attack?" Joe suggested. Barry glanced at him, "That's what I was thinking, but there are usually signs of heart attack, such as a flushed face or bluish tinges to the nose, eyes, or fingertips. As you can see there are no signs of any of that. Poison, I wouldn't be able to tell from here. He'd need an autopsy. None of that accounts for the damage done to this house."
Joe passed a hand across his face, "Okay, we'll get that autopsy straight away." Eddie Thawne suddenly came into the room,"I checked around the neighborhood, nobody saw anything suspicious"
Barry interrupted," Who was this guy anyway?"
Eddie opened the folder he was carrying,"Um, an Eric Richards. He was a retired principle from a high school not too far from here. Supposedly a nice guy, really well liked." Joe stood up and asked, "Any relations?"
"Yeah, he had a daughter about the same age as you actually Barry, but after college she left Central City and moved away. We already contacted her, I told her she wouldn't be questioned or anything like that, since obviously she couldn't have done. She has an alibi. Plus we don't even know if it was murder, it could just be cardiac arrest. Also she said she became estranged with her father awhile ago, so she doesn't plan on coming down. At all." Eddie finished
"Not for any funeral?" Singh asked. Eddie shook his head,"Nope."
Singh sighed,"Well get this body to the pathologist, I have a feeling we're wasting our time, he probably just had a heart attack and knocked some things over trying to get help. We'll wait until after the autopsy report to see for certain though. For now everyone pack up and let's go"
As everyone prepared to leave, Joe signaled Barry over to him, "Hey, you don't think a meta-human could be behind this, do you?" he whispered. Barry looked around, then sighed, "Honestly I don't know, I hope not. If it was, it's probably a powerful one. For all we know it could have just been exactly as the captain said."
Joe looked doubtful,"With this much damage to the house?" The scientist glanced around, "Listen, I'll talk to Dr. Wells and the team, but most likely we'll just have to wait and see if there is another attack, if it was an attack." The detective nodded his head, "Fine, I guess we'll just have to see what the report says."
After about a week, the report came in: He wasn't poison and there were absolutely no signs of any struggle externally or internally. He simply had had a cardiac arrest.
Doubtful though he was, Barry couldn't argue against it, especially since, after three more weeks, there had been nothing similar to what had happened to Eric Richards. In the end, it was just an accident and wasn't even a case at all. The police forgot about it, S.T.A.R. Labs forgot about it, Barry forgot about it. He went back to his usual life, if you count being the fastest human in the world usual, and was happy.
Until, about a month and a half after the case-turned-not-case was ended, Caitlin, Cisco, Dr. Wells, and Barry came back to the lab after testing his abilities outside and heard the alarm blaring throughout S.T.A.R. Labs, red light washing the walls, as sound pierced the day.

The Flash or any of its' characters do not belong to me (sadly). Only my OC does and any ideas of mine not on The Flash.
