"What's wrong with father?" Asked Zoey desperately hoping he's alright.
"T-the plague might've of caught him Hunny..." her mother said softly trying her best not to cry.
"No!" Zoey yelled, "I refuse to believe that!" she was crying at that point.
"I'm so sorry to tell you this, your sister knows already too"
"Yeah like she'd even care" Zoey muttered under her breath. Her sister wasn't the kindest soul and was pretty spoiled by her mother only her father understood Zoey the most she can't loose him. Zoey on the other hand always appreciated what she got it mixed in with her inability to be mean or critical. She was a bully target at school but she managed to block out all their comments. Her friends were always sticking up for her as she couldn't do it herself. If it wasn't for her dad owning the bakery she'd end up asking a friend to order for her.
"C-can I go to my friends to tell them...?" She asked quietly. With one closed eye, she looked up at her mother. "I guess, but I need you back by 9"
"I'll be back by 9 then!" Zoey was a little happier now. She ran upstairs and packed a little bag of things she might need (including her diary). She put on a pair of small ripped jeans and striped crop top. Quickly she put on her favourite feather earrings and ran downstairs. Pulling on her red and used Converses she waved bye to her mother. Little things like her friends helped Zoey deal with difficult things. Shutting the door she heard crows up in the sky. She looked up and saw 3 crows flying ahead of her. Weird she thought to herself crows don't fly around this place. Placing her headphones into her ears she played her music and shook off the weird feeling she got from the ugly birds. She started to walk towards Lucia's house. Lucia also came from a somewhat rich family, her family owned the cafe next to her family's bakery. The Soutre's were very sweet people and Lucia was just as kind. Zoey was sick of walking and decided to run to Lucia's. With music blasting into her ears she didn't notice Jane being a few meters away from her. Jane quickly caught her which scared Zoey a bit. "Jesus, you scared me, Jay," Said Zoey out of breath and taking out her headphones even though she was running for 6 minutes. "Sorry Zo," She rolled her eyes and gave a small laugh. Jane was really pretty she had dirty blonde hair and beautiful piercing blue eyes. Zoey looked pretty lame compared to her. She had bright blonde hair with a few highlights here and there. She had deep green eyes that weren't nearly as pretty as Jane's. Jane was wearing cuffed dark blue jeans that complimented her very womanly figure and she wore a stranger things shirt that had the face of Noah on it. "And as always with the Stranger Things merch" Zoey laughed.
"Whatever you say pimple face" They both laughed and hugged they usually insulted each other as a way of showing that they cared. "Where are you running off too anyways?"
"I'm going to Lucia's house"
"Why?"
"I'll tell you why on the way it's a bit sad"
"Right then let's go to Lucia's house what are we waiting for?"
They headed off to the deep dark woods on the path that leads to the house. It wasn't as lonely anymore for Zoey. She explained the huge issue with her father possibly dying. It was very sad for her yes but she was holding off her emotions. She didn't want to be seen as a vulnerable baby bunny as many people described her as. Jane didn't notice this as much as her other friends did but she always meant well. They finally arrived after 7 minutes of walking. They knocked on the old wooden door and were surprised to see Natasha. "Hi!" She said
"Hi Nat, didn't think you'd be here," said Zoey.
"Yeah I kinda stayed the night here" she awkwardly scratched the back of her neck. Nat was known for being awkward as a person. She would get scared pretty easily if you weren't careful with the stories you would tell. She had very long brown hair that swayed and waved in the wind. Her eyes were very thin and almost completely black like the void. She was wearing a pastel blue shirt with long sleeves and dark grey sweatpants. She smiled and let them in. "Luce is in her room doing her make up as always"
"I'm not surprised"
"Is anyone at this point Zo?"
"Oh yeah anyways what brings you two here?" Zoey and Jane kicked off their shoes and told her about Zo's father. "Oh crap that's terrible I'm so sorry Zo"
"No no, it's alright don't worry about it," she said tears already forming in her eyes.
They made their way up the stairs to Lucia's room. "Hey there Luce"
"Oh hi, you two" she looked away from her mirror to look at her friends.
"You alright Zo? you look like you're about to cry"
Zoey burst into tears she couldn't get any words out. Zoey was emotional but never like this. She fell onto the floor and Jane quickly explained what's going on to Lucia as Nat was hugging Zo.
A few minutes passed and they finally got Zoey to calm down a bit. She was now sitting in Nat's lap hugging her. Zoey looked as if she fell asleep.
Luce's room was big it had all the space where she could dance, stretch on the floor and many other things. It was painted as bright grey, yellow and white.
"Hey, guys...?" Jane said looking up from her phone
"Yeah?"
"What's up?"
"You remember the old folk story that every old person tells the younger kids?"
"You mean the one about the blood message?"
"Yeah that one"
"What about it?" asked Zoey quietly moving away from Nat's tight grip on her.
"Maybe we could see if it's true...? since y'know it is the 13th tomorrow" Lucia was now interested after Jane had said that.
"We can see if it predicts any more deaths, maybe it'll mention somethings about Zo's dad," said nat allowing Zoey to move away from her.
"We can try maybe it'll work," Lucy said "Just I hope it doesn't spook us"
"Yeah because a ghost will totally come and jump us" Jane laughed at her joke Zoey and Nat laughed along.
"Not funny you know I hate ghosts!" Lucia threw a pillow at Jane then laughed.
"I'll call Flo and tell her to join!" Zoey exclaimed. She was fully awake now if she was a dog her tail would be wagging like crazy. A cute animal is what Zoey was usually described as.
"Then it's settled we are going to check out this thing"
A lot of time went by and it was time for Zoey to return home. It was cold as it was 08:45 pm. She was just outside the door when another 3 crows flew by. It sent shivers down her spine. Creepy she thought to herself. She ended up running home as she was running really late.
~Zoeys House~
Dear diary, She wrote, I'll be going to the cemetery tomorrow wish me luck. I hope no one gets hurt. I heard terrible stories about that place.
"Zoey!!" Yelled her mum
"What??" She yelled back
"Lights out!"
"Okay okay"
I have to go I'll tell you what happened if I survive. She signed the diary and went to sleep.
