A/N Hey! So this is my first story, I wrote this a few years back for a friend who needed something to read. It's pretty short but I thought I'd put it up here for others. As of right now I'm experimenting with Wattpad and seeing what it's like to publish stories!
This world was beautiful. So beautiful it was encased in glass so that it's beauty could be preserved forever. Everything in this world was so healthy it had an enchanting sparkle to it.
The colours are so vibrant, they put the sun to shame. Green leaves covered the trees in green, sheltering canopies. The bluest water streamed through the rivers and brooks that were scattered across the earth. Flowers of every colour imaginable were everywhere in sight. Their fragrance better than any perfume every created filled the air.
The people here were beautiful as well. Everyone was - for lack of better word - perfect. Peace was eternal. Happiness was forever. In fact, many people didn't even know the definition of hate.
There isn't a single thing in this world that was ugly.
However, all of this wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the Eco-Failure.
Years ago, a virus was brought up by the government. For the most part it was in a controlled environment. It's only purpose was for study of the human brain.
Sadly, it was difficult to contain. This led to the unfortunate wiping out majority of the human race. The few that were left hid in fear of the unknown. Most life forms became extinct and for about 67 years the world was just covered in desert land. At least at the time that was what they thought.
The very few members of the government that were left did a full analysis of the earth. It was discovered that a tiny, nearly microscopic, patch of natural life was left.
They say that scientists were able to reproduce and then multiply the cells from that life. The result of this: A world full of beauty encased in a glass dome. Many people including me, would then rename this dome 'Home'.
This new life was to be preserved and it was claimed that it would last forever. As long as people remained cautious of disease, this new world would be eternal.
Spoiler Alert: It didn't.
I think that everyone remembers the day that a single leaf fell from one of the many trees. In our past world that would've been normal. Except, in this world, death did not occur.
It was later rumored that a little boy was the one who found the leaf. The one issue with that leaf was that it did not resemble a leaf at all. It was plastic
That's when we all learned that this was completely fake. Nothing about this was real.
After this time, no one knew what to do with their new-found knowledge. Some people thought that it was best to ignore it. They already lived in happiness so even if it was artificial it was still happiness.
That would've been a good idea. But, this single leaf falling from a tree was the start of a horrible chain of events.
Eventually, it was revealed that not only the leaves were plastic, but everything was created out of machinery.
The trees that once seemed to sway in the wind were just automated machines. The sun, a projection of light. The scent of flowers, a mix of chemicals.
Again, this wouldn't have been a problem. However, people forgot that all machinery will eventually malfunction.
The machinery disguised as trees began to leak oil. Dark, liquid oozed out of the bark. More leaves began to fall. Once their plastic mixed with the chemicals in the air from the flowers it quickly became dangerous.
The artificial world began to decay. It took about 2 years for the entire world to completely decay.
As for the humans living in it, they didn't last as long.
With all the chemicals surrounding them, many people were poisoned and choked.
No one survived. Not even me.
I died from the gas. It was a horrible feeling of slowly losing my air and it was a painful death.
As of right now, I don't know what I am. All I know is that I'm no longer alive. Maybe I was an apparition of some sort.
I looked around me to the dead world and could only be certain of one thing:
The world was wretched and ugly.
Hey Everyone! So that's it! Let me know what you thought of that! It was fun to publish something for the first time so expect more work in the future!
