The morning sunlight fell into the room, mixing with the fluorescent lights of the hospital. Machines beeped and glowed, fueling the curiosity within the woman who sat up on the hospital bed. Her black hair was effortlessly flowing down her back, strands framed her oval face and her blue-green eyes scanned the room with innocent curiosity.

Her mind was at odds with itself, unknowing of how she got to the room or where she even was. Nothing was screaming familiarity to the woman, but that didn't bother her much as she was too distracted by the various machines surrounding her bed.

The hospital gown that she was wearing crinkled as she moved to sit on her knees, poking at the wires that were stuck into her arm. She picked up one of the tubes, following it from her arm to a metal stand near her bed, a bag of clear liquid was hanging from one of the hooks.

A smile pulled at her face and she excitedly went to grab the bag, "water." Her mind jumped for joy in recognition of something. A light laugh caught her attention and she turned her gaze from the water to a man in a white coat. He was tall and muscular with extremely pale skin, golden-blond hair, and the most entrancing gold eyes.

On instinct, her eyes changed to a glowing blue and her pupils became slits. Carlisle was surprised by her change, it was nothing he had seen before, but as quickly as they changed, they went back to normal.

Her heart leaped in recognition of another word, of another feeling she recognized. "Mine," she pointed to him, feeling the mate bond as strongly as he did. But the mate bond was only her instincts talking, as was the knowledge of water. Aside from her natural instincts, she knew nothing. Her mind was a blank slate and the only thing she knew for sure was that the ocean salt buried beneath her skin was itching to a point she couldn't ignore. She needed water.

She went to stand from the bed but her legs went weak beneath her and became like jelly. Carlisle was quick to catch her in his arms, using his vampire speed to rush over to her. Where their skin touched, a cool fire burned. But that wasn't what Carlisle noticed, instead he noticed how her skin was cool. Not as cold as his but, not nearly as warm as a human.

He set her back on the bed, stepping back a bit to give her space. "My name is Carlisle, what is yours?" His voice was formal and polite and sounded so nice to the girl, she smiled brightly up at the man but, as she went to respond, she frowned. Her empty mind couldn't even conjure a name. "I don't... I don't know."

Her voice was as beautiful as herself. Carlisle frowned at her worried expression, "that's okay," she shivered at the way the words sounded falling from his lips. "Do you know what you are?" The woman cocked her head to the side, her waterfall of inky hair fell over her shoulder.
