Author's Note

So this is the first story I have ever written and it is kinda not really based off of my life so far :). Please please please don't leave mean comments or hate on my characters as I have so much to learn and grow from this. I hope you enjoy and if you want me to keep writing leave me some comments!

Vanessa

I glance up at the tall building in front of me, not really comprehending that I'm moving in. The walkways are bustling with people all running from their cars to the dorms in order to get out of the rain. I don't really mind the rain though, there are bigger things happening right now for me to stress over getting my curly black hair wet. My mother gently nudges my shoulder to get my attention, "Ness, we have to start moving your things up before the storm picks up." I nod and head towards the car noticing the extent of things I have to move up.

Getting into the elevator, I realize that I have yet to meet my roommate. I didn't have many people from home coming to the University of Virginia with me, so I decided to go with a random roommate. The only information I got was her name, Mya Lee.

I enter the pin to my dorm room and slowly open the door. I gasp when I realize how small the room actually is, only three feet separating my side from my roommate's. The only furniture being a bed, desk, and wardrobe. I don't have too much time to think about the room size as I began to unpack. Once all of my things were put away and my decor was hung up, it hit me that I actually had to say goodbye to my parents. I was going to be all on my own, a bird just flying out of the nest.

"Bye Mom, I love you so much. Thank you for everything and helping me move in." I give her a long hug.

"Nessy, I love you baby and I am so proud of you. You are a smart girl and I know that you will do so well. Don't forget to have fun and let loose every once in a while honey." She begins tearing up as she turns towards the door.

My mom has always been a strong woman with having to deal with a man who left her for another younger woman. She was simply going to surprise him at work for his birthday, but instead walked in on him having an affair with his employee, a girl who was only a year older than me. Instead of breaking down though, she braved through it and took half of everything they had. Ironically enough, she is a divorce lawyer so she knew that she could break him by taking full custody of me, not that I wouldn't have chosen that outcome willingly. That man has tried to get in contact with me since, but I refuse to speak to him let alone call him "Dad".

My mom ends up coming back to my room to give me one last hug before leaving. I end up crying too but I'm more excited than anything. I begin staring at the door until it has become second nature because I can not wait to meet my roommate.

I always pictured having a roommate to be like in the books or movies. I imagined that we'd be best friends who take all the same classes and go out together every weekend. I wanted my roommate to become my family, my go to, my sister. I had never really had a close friend where I was their close friend as well. The people I put first in my life always seemed to put me second.

I'm snapped out of my reverie when I hear the door handle begin to beep from the pin code being entered. I shift positions in my chair, wanting to seem as "chill" as possible. When she walks in, I immediately notice her gorgeous long black hair and almond eyes. Her complexion is perfect, not one blemish on her porcelain skin.

"Hi I'm Vanessa! But you can call me V or Nessa, whatever you'd like!" I say with an overenthusiastic smile.

"It's so nice to meet you, I'm Mya." She doesn't seem as eager as I had thought she'd be, but I grin anyways and ask her if she needed help. We slowly get to work unpacking all of her things. We begin to bond, and I learn she is studying Engineering as well and that she's really similar to me. She hasn't really ever partied either nor has she had a legitimate boyfriend.
