A Promise Not To Break

Holding hands and a joyful smile plastered on the faces of two young girls walking down in a street. It's Belle and Rose, best friends since birth and a sisters by heart, that's how they describe their friendship.

May kalayoan man ang mga bahay nila, ay hindi iyon naging hadlang sa kanilang pagkikita. In every day, they'll play and chat like they haven't saw each other in a year.

But sometimes fate is tricky, oras na nangpagkikita ng magkakaibigan ngunit hindi nakapunta si Belle sa tambayan nilang magbest friend sa kadahilanang may sakit ito kaya't kinakailangang dalhin sa klinik ng barangay upang machek up at mahingian ng gamot. Hindi man lang ito nakapagpaalam sa kanyang bestfriend na siyang nagpalungkot ng labis kay Rose sapagkat mag-isa lamang ito sa tambayan dahil hindi tumupad ang kaibigan sa usapan kaya't napagdesisyonan nitong sumama sa ibang mga bata na papunta sa ilog.

Masaya ang lahat sa ilog, maging si Rose ay nalibang at nawala ang kalungkutang nararamdaman. Habang naglalaro si Rose ay bigla na lamang siyang nadapa at natusok ng isang sanga ng kahoy sa may tagiliran. Hindi naman iyong malalim kaya't hinayaan na nya lamang iyon at nagpatuloy sa pakikipaglaro sa mga kasama.

When the sun are about to set, everyone decided to go home. Rose started to feel weak, her wound are no longer bleeding but she still feel the pain. Nang makauwi sya ay agad na lamang syang nagpahinga. Her wound was bleeding again, hindi niya ito ipinagsabi kahit kanino dahil narin sa takot na baka mapagalitan.

Evening comes, Belle wanted to visit Rose, however, she's still not allowed since she's not well. To her shock, her bestfriend's mother came to their house in a rush, telling them that they're about to bring Rose to the hospital because of her wound and she won't eat any.

Belle wanted to see her bestfriend but again, she's not allowed to. She cried and pray to make Rose okay.

TWO days and two nights passed but still no news of Rose. She's worried sick and misses her a lot. While crying she remembered their promise, "promise me, no matter what happen Rose, i will be your bestfriend." A sweet smile appeared on her face as Belle raise her pinky finger for a pinky promise.

"You will always be my bestfriend, Belle. I promise." With that they locked their fingers as a sign of their promise

"Let's promise that wherever we go, even if fate would take us apart, we're going to find each other."

"I promise Rose, I will find you wherever you go. No one can break us apart."

ANOTHER days passed, and a news came. A news that no one knows that could break a young girl's heart. Rose died. Infections and too much lose of blood.

She can't process everything in her mind, she kept on asking what happened. And only answered, "your bestfriend will have her final sleep and rest."

Then she realized that by that time, she'll be left alone. She will be alone with the good memories of Rose but with a broken heart. Tears run down to Belle's face as she saw the pale body of her bestfriend,--the dead body of her bestfriend carried by her father.

"No, this can't be true! Wake up, Rose. Please don't leave me bestfriend, please." She yelled , hoping that Rose will hear it and come back to life.

She cried hard, still pleading to wake her friend from sleeping. But sometimes reality is cruel and truth hurts.

And on Rose's final moment, she let everything out on her heart, making her breakdown in pain.

While holding a white roses she neared to the coffin, "Rose, I though we'll going to grow together? We'll gonna chase our dreams together, right? But why did you leave me this early, bestfriend? Don't you miss me? Now that you're gone, who will fight those bullies for me? Sino na 'yong magiging kalaro ko buong araw? Bakit ka umalis ng hindi man lang nagsabi? Ang unfair mo naman ehh, ako umalis lang papuntang clinic tapos sayo papuntang langit na ehh. Hindi mo man lang ako hinintay para makapagpaalam lang naman sana ng maayos.

' Rose, can't you just take me with you? Am i to blame, because if i wasn't sick that time maybe you're still alive. Rose, it hurts so much. I think i can't take it anymore. But I think this is really it. You will go now, and don't worry, I'll chase our dreams, you cannot chase yours now so let me do it for you.

'Rose... Just remember, that even if you're gone, you were always be my bestfriend.

But then, as we promised, even if fate take us apart, I'll find you, even if it's in the other world." In between her sobs, Belle put the roses in the coffin and whispered,

"Someday, we will find each other."

And there, she left with a determination to live her life even if it looks like her heart was crashed into tiny pieces and a big part of it was buried with Rose, for her bestfriend who's now in the good hands.

" 'Til we meet again, bestfriend."
