Jessica's POV
The next day, I go to school unhappily. I tell my friends that I will be moving in with my uncle Adam soon.
My... I guess you could say friend, Leah, reacts the worst. She starts sobbing and hugging the life out of me like I'm gonna vanish this very second. "Oh my gosh Jessica I'm gonna miss you so so much! Why did your cranky old grandma have to decide to make you move out of town now? Couldn't she have waited at least until the school year is over? It's a new semester and-" She keeps babbling on and on but I zone her out.
I think about my freshman and sophomore years here. I'll basically have to start over with my life.
After school I walk home. It was a two-mile walk, but I didn't feel like getting on the bus. And I need sometime to myself.
Peter is playing video games when I get home. "Hey, what took you so long?" he asks.
"I walked," I say emotionlessly.
"In the cold? It's snowing like crazy out there!"
"Wasn't that bad. I like the cold air," I shrug.
"You always were the weird one," Peter rolls his eyes and mumbles.
I ignore him and go upstairs. I stay in my room that afternoon and evening. I don't even think about eating dinner. Nothing sounds good to me anyway. Soon, I fall asleep.
*
Peter shakes me awake.
Like, why? I want to ask him. It's fucking Saturday and you're interrupting my beauty sleep!
As you have probably guessed, Peter likes to awake me up when I don't want him to. I swear his must be doing this to piss me off.
"Jess, get dressed. Caiden is here and get wants to spend some time with you before you leave next week."
It's been 6 days since Grandma and Peter broke the news to me that I was leaving. I leave for Alaska next Sunday.
I groan. "Okay, okay. Tell him I'll be down in 20 minutes."
Peter grins. "Knowing you, that won't happen. So get up!" he pushes me off the bed and I land on my butt on the floor.
Guys, welcome to my brother's death day.
I screech loudly. "GET. THE. FUCK. OUT!"
"Okay, geez, no reason to make my ears bleed," he says while holding his hands to his ears and quickly retreating out of my room.
Bastard.
Okay, not really but you know what I mean.
I get up off the floor and get dressed. I took a shower last night so I am good for today.
I know what you guys are thinking.
Who the hell is Caiden? Is he a boyfriend? Is he a cousin? Is he someone who actually treats me like trash while everyone else thinks we are friends?
Incorrect. Nosy asses.
Caiden is my best friend. We have been friends since the start of middle school, and although we go to different high schools now, we still remained the best of friends. He understands me. He's always there for me. I can confide in him no matter what the situation is. He listens and considered my feelings carefully. He's the only one who makes me feel at least somewhat understood.
And before you go yapping about the possibility of him liking me more than a friend or vice versa, no.
He is like another brother to me.
