The Big Dog

A small story about my son, Himawari ( https://toyhou.se/998623.himawari ) with a giant dog (a Borzoi by the name of Sala) and his friend/eventual boyfriend, Yuudai( https://toyhou.se/1038187.yuudai ). Takes place when they are about 16 (in the Naruto plotline this is in the interlude between Ship. and Naruto).

The day was warm, unbearably so in the humid heat of Fire Country, but it wasn't entirely unwelcome. Usually, the young man would wear layers upon layers of kimono-esque coats over his shirt, but today offered the unique opportunity to wear his favorite linen short sleeve shirt. As per his more conservative nature, the buttons were neatly buttoned all the way to the collar and nicely loose so not to show off anything unsavory. It was an odd sensation being away from the rest of the Hyuuga clan, offered the unique chance to live in his friend's apartment and away from the prying eyes of the main family.

A nice breeze blew through his long raven hair as he stood upon the balcony overlooking the rest of the village. Himawari offered a ghost of a smile as he took in the sights and sounds of the village below; loud and all too unbearably too much but just as much home. The teen didn't really get out too much, preferring to spend his days training or reading at home (he would never admit to being a fan of romantic novels). It was nice.

To be alone while Yuyu (his roommate) went out with her other friends and without anything to disturb him. Outside of the knock on his front door.

Himawari closed pale eyes, head lolling to the side as he debated whether or not it was really worth opening his day up to someone else. And with a heavy heart and a frown upon his face, the Hyuuga walked towards the door and opened it with as much anger as he could muster. Only to reveal the Uchiha teen that seems to be stuck to his side. A plague more than anything.

"Is there something you needed, Uchiha?" Himawari asked, brows furrowing in confusion as his eyes peered down to the crate at his feet. The teen wasn't unused to seeing crates, though generally carried by his sensei (who insisted on dating Kakashi despite his allergies to literally every dog on the planet). But, to see Yuu toting around an animal crate was unusual, unwelcome, and all too suspicious.

"Well, you see, I had this great idea right?" Yuu began, leaning down to grab the crate at his feet. "I know you like dogs and you always just babysit them for a bit and I saw this cute little guy on the side of the street and thought you might like him? You just moved away from home so it's your housewarming gift!" The Uchiha pushed the dog crate towards the Hyuuga insistently, dark eyes bright and warm.

This was too weird, too out-of-character for the usually manic and mischievous Uchiha. Himawari peered down at the crate, taking it from the other and gesturing them inside. Opening up the cage doors, a tiny and awkward looking puppy stumbled out. Tongue out and tail between the legs. The tanned color of the small lad had flecks of dirt throughout and too-skinny legs skittered across the floor. Himawari smiled softly at Yuu before turning their attention back to the little puppy exploring their surroundings. 

"And you thought a dog was a good housewarming gift?" Himawari asked simply, eyes flicking back to the Borzoi as they sniffed at Himawari's palm before accepting a few pets on the head. 

Yuu had the audacity to give a sheepish laugh, a faint blush painting across his cheeks. The Uchiha tilted his head, humming in agreement with the other before chattering for a bit about absolutely nothing (everything to Himawari but he wouldn't ever admit to something such as that). Yuu eventually ended up right beside Himawari right on the floor, hands playing with the ends of the raven locks of the Hyuuga. A soft smile covering both of the teen's faces as they played with their new best friend.
