DREAMLAND
"Skyler, what's your answer?"
"OMG you know yesterday, she actually tried to talk to me I was like, 'dude I am way outta your league like get away from me'. She is so weird!" My best friend Kaelynn, also my favourite tea buddy.
"I know right? And she's like so extra I can't even with her."
"Skyler!"
Damn Ms Higgins, your patience level is really low. I stopped laughing. "What?"
"That's detention Ms Valentina."
Great. Time to lay on the BS thick.
"Ms Higgins, I am so so sorry. I admit I wasn't paying attention but really, this won't happen again. Please, if you give me one last chance I will prove to you that I am a woman of my word."
She clenched her jaw and I could tell she was trying her best not to roll her eyes. "Fine, if you give me the right answer, I'll let you go. But this is your last warning."
"Thank you so much, Ms Higgins, I really really appreciate it." Walking up to the whiteboard, I solved the equation in 10 seconds flat. "If my calculations are right, x equals to 1.47, y equals to 8.64 and z is 2.8."
Who am I kidding? I know my calculations are right. But I'm sure Ms Higgins would not appreciate it if I beat her to her own game and rubbed it in her face.
Kaelynn gave me a high-five as I sat back down next to her. "You go, girl!"
"I know I do." A smirk played across my face.
The bell rang. And that's my detention-free lunch break.
REALITY
"Skyler, hello? Earth to Ms Valentina? Would somebody please go and shake her out of her daydream?"
A hard yank on my ponytail snapped me out of it. "Ow... What?"
The whole class burst out laughing. "What were you daydreaming about loser? That guy you like whose way outta your league and will never like you back? Quit fooling yourself."
"I know right? I'd have thought someone with the name Valentina would be more of a heartbreaker, but I guess you just get your own heart broken. Haha. You know, cause, Valentina sounds a lot like Valentines, and Valentines Day is like..."
"That wasn't even funny, Lezanne."
Kaelynn Keith and Lezanne Lays. The two classic mean girls of our class. Clearly, I don't like them, and the feeling is mutual. Actually scrap that, I HATE them. But when you're the target of every little taunt and trick the HBIC has up her sleeve, you don't really get to 'hate' them. So sometimes, I dream of being like them and being friends with them. But reality bites.
Hard.
"Skyler, that's the third time this week. If you keep this up, I'm gonna have to call your parents again. And that's detention."
"No, Ms Higgins, please. Don't call my parents." The detentions I was used to, but if my mum heard about this...
"Ooh, is little baby Skywer scared of getting in twouble?" Kaelynn mocked in a faux baby voice, which I knew by now was one of her greatest talents. She used it to make fun of me, to get her multiple boyfriends to do her bidding, and pretty much to get whatever she wanted.
I looked down at my feet, at my worn out brand-less sneakers compared to Kaelynn's pumped up Gucci heels.
The bell rang. Ignoring the snide remarks and sniggers behind my back, I walked out to my lunch break detention.
